Default Need service manuals for my 2002 SC430

Would 2003 versions work for a 2002 model? And how much should I be paying for a 2 volume set?
Thanks

Hi Momssc, check out the SC430 Classified section. The seller is AZKaty, nice lady, she might still have hers for sale. Check it out. I think they are the same from 02 to at least 04 and then some stuff is the same all the way up to the "end".

There were3 volumes needed for a complete set when I looked for my 06 recently and that did not include the electrical section. The eBay seller was asking $50 per book. I decided I did not want a set without the schematics. I am thinking about getting the electronic version available on eBay. I would like to hear if anyone bought one of those and how inclusive it is.

I found no difference between 02/03. Here is what I bought last summer-brand new in shrink wrap (old stock). The 02 (my SC is an 02 also) was more than double the price. My price last summer was $140 total.

They are near my home, so I actual went to their store to buy. They just have more of the 03's than 02's and the 03's are of older stock but are new and still shrink-wrapped. I did ask since I preferred the 02, but not for double the price-hence I bought the 03.

Hope this is helpful, John

Has anyone bought the service manual CD's for $19.95 from eBay? Are they as good as the subscription to ALLDATAdiy.com? I find ALLDATAdiy.com to be less than comprehensive and would like something better.

I bought the CD and rarely used it. Much more convenient to look stuff up in the book and keep it in the garage with the SC. IProbably a personal choice though.

The manuals should be fine for 2002 to 2005.

Thats what I figured. But sometimes they change things that aren't cosmetic like electrical things. My car was built late 02, May 7th 2002, so it probably got any 03 changes anyway.

When considering a CD version of a repair manual you should ask the seller a few questions.
  1. Is the CD they are selling the full integrated manual?
  2. What does the CD include? (Vol 1, Vol 2, Electrical, AT and NEW CAR features)
  3. Does the CD contain PDF files and are they hyperlinked with ones that actually work?
  4. Ask for the Publication Number or Pub. No. that their CD covers. For example the 2002 LEXUS SC430 REPAIR MANUAL publication number is RM844U1 (Vol 1) and RM844U2 (Vol 2), the "U" referring to US or North American.
But if they answered or even know that its RM858E where the E represents European. Obviously there are differences such as right hand drive but I'd say more than 95% of the manual offers identical information. BTW the E CD has both Left Hand Drive and RHD repair instructions.

There is one other method to consider and that's TIS or Toyota's Technical Information System. If you want the newest, most updated information which is globally searchable, you can purchase a two-day subscription for $15. It's not only searchable but downloadable too.

No, I don't work for them, but I do own four Toyota/Lexus vehicles. Using the TIS system once saved me $150 on my teenagers Corolla when I discovered a TSB on premature wear of the brake pads. Even thought the car was under warranty, brakes are a wear item. The dealer originally was going to charge for the replacing the brakes. When I asked them about the TSB and gave them the number, the job was done at no charge.

Hope this helps. BTW I own both types of media on two of my four cars and use TIS too.
