Default Some wetness on the trunk screen

I know...sounds like the something you might hear on Cimemax...

So here's the situation. I just got back in town after a few days and noticed my back window was a bit foggy after getting into my car after work.

I went to the store that night and needed the trunk space, so I retracted the screen. I will say it was dark, but I was in the trunk earlier in that morning and didn't notice a thing.

This morning, after unloading the trunk, I pulled back the screen and it was wet. Not a puddle; it appeared to be smeared or streaked with moisture. It was pretty dry the day before but had rained this morning. I will add that I do crank the heat when I get the chance.

Any thoughts?

BTW - the trunk has never been wet or appeared to be wet.

Thanks!

This happened to me last summer after a heavy rainfall with the car parked "nose up" in my slopped driveway... Big puddle in the trunk.

I replaced the roof rear panel weatherstrip... Since then, no problem!

Can you take a pic of what you replaced, please?

It's the part marked in red...

Cheers!

Check the carpet on the back floor area and all around the back seats and panels and see if anything is damp. Was the fog on the inside of the window? Here is my experience with this. When I was having a trunk leak problem 2 yrs. ago that same back window seal was replaced by the dealer as shown in the drawing posted above and all was fine for about a year (I didn't have my garage back then so car was kept outside). Then last winter I developed moisture on the inside of my front and rear windows (actual droplets that sometimes seemed like fog) but trunk was dry since previous fix. Dealer said moisture on inside of windows was a sign that something inside the car was getting damp/wet and sure enough the back carpets were damp. The remaining roof and side seam seals were replaced and all has been fine since (keeping the car outside tends to wear on the rubber seams and they can get brittle and not hold the seal well).

Now as part of the issue of back carpet being wet (but not trunk) I noticed a slight water stain on the trunk screen. So I retracted it and pulled it out and I noticed the screen was slightly wet like you described (not a puddle or dripping but I could see some water lines or smears).

So your problem might be with top or side seams since your trunk is dry. Take it to the dealer and let them bring in the "leak specialist" and check it out. All my leak work including seal replacement was done by dealer and covered by warranty.

Default update

Opened the trunk this morning and saw water just running into the trunk on the drivers side with it opened

I then checked under the back seats and found water on the same side.

I made my appt today. Hopefully I'm covered under warranty, if not I'll take some advice.

A couple of things to keep in mind taking your car in (discussed in other posts and/or your experience might be different - but you never know what "clues" might help in dealing with you water issues). The water specialist will most likely take the car through wash and use methods to attempt to duplicate the leak in order to find point(s) of entry. Experience of some of us is that leaks can be difficult to duplicate. So without an obvious breach in the rubber seams or somewhere else, the first "suspect" is the drainage holes you find on either side of trunk when open. Making sure these were clear did nothing for my trunk leak problems so I brought the car back. Since they were not sure exactly where the problem was they simply replaced all the rubber seams in the back which fixed the trunk leak as I said before (all covered by warranty). However to fix my back floor leak they removed panels etc. and ultimately replaced roof and side seals and this fixed it.

With my car the first time they replaced the trunk seals I again had water in the trunk almost a year later at which point they "built-up" the new seals and that did the trick. But they stuck with me through all of this until they got it right (no cost to me except headache and worry - but all good since no more leaks)!

Let us know how it goes - will help others who might have similiar problems.

I hoping I was lucky because I actually saw the water coming in under trunk bracket as it was channeling across the back window seal. This should narrow down the cause (crossing my fingers).

My sucks is that my back seat upper foam on the same side was pretty soaked. I left it out to dry after squeezing water out of it. On expectation, it looks like this was an ongoing problem, but maybe not too long. No mold and some staining. I'm just glad I caught it.

Now I have to figure out the best way to completely dry out that foam cushion

Wasn't under warranty, but got the price down to $300 installed. Given the heavy rains up in the NW, I thought it was a steal
