Default Programming a Key can be done!

Hi,
I'm a new owner of a used 2003 SC430. It had only one key. After not following my own advice of always searching first....I pad nearly $400 for a 2nd key with programming. We decided on a remote start...and I was not going to pay that kind of money again. I won't do advertising..but I found online a place to buy and cut a key with a chip in it. I then searched and this set of instructions definitely works.

Lesson learned....new key was just $54 total!!!!!!!!!

1. Enter the car with a working pre-programmed key and close all doors. Simultaneously depress and release both the brake and the accelerator pedals.
2. Within 5 seconds, insert the working pre-programmed key into the ignition. DO NOT TURN THE KEY.
3. Within 15 seconds of inserting the ignition key, depress and release the accelerator pedal 5 times.
4. Within 20 seconds, depress and release the brake pedal 6 times.
5 Within 10 seconds, remove the working pre-programed key from the ignition.
6. Within 10 seconds, insert the pre-programmed key back into the ignition.
7. Depress and release the accelerator pedal one time. The security light should now begin flashing to indicate that the computer is reading the new key and programming the system.
8. Leave the new key in the ignition for at least 60 seconds. When the security light stops flashing, the programming process should be complete.
9. Test the new key.

Congrats and welcome!

Post some pics of your car!!!

This is a great accomplishment as I can remember when I bought my 02 and only had one key. I actually felt so great about it, I bought three extra keys and did all of them. Later I found out that you can only have four max keys programmed to the ECU. $54 is a steal to pay for a new key programmed. Great job!

I always go to the dealer, and ask if he can delete all the key's not in my possession.
Sounds nice self programming but in my opinion it is only possible if one or more of the keys are defective. If one or more keys are missing Who has those key's
If they are out of the system its possible to open the door but they cannot deactivate the alarm and immobilizer....

I know I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed. Did I miss something? #6. Said to reinsert the preprogrammed key. #7. After doing the pedal thingy, it's reading the new key. 8. Leave the new key in the ignition. How did it get there?
Also SC said it was a steal for a new key @ $54, I checked for my key and it's like $110. plus shipping. Inflation? Just sayin'. Plus I don't need one right now (good to know through) we only got one with the SC, but they got us one.

I have been wanting to get a spare key for my RX. I only have 1 and the credit card key. I need another one.

But the website indicates no on board programming is available for the RX. I wonder if this process above can work for the RX.

For ken987: I am thinking your procedure overcomes the theft deterrent system - i.e. the key mechanically opens the doors and will start the engine. How about the wireless door lock programming? Did you try that? Or does this procedure somehow accomplish it? And by all means post some photos, eh?

Hi,
The key was a basic key, it just had the chip as it will be used so that I can install remote start. The pages I found also had instructions for keys with the built in remotes. I will try and get a pic up. Our new car is shiny black with the ecru interior.

Great color combination. I have the more mundane '02 Milennium Silver with Saddle but we like it a lot. I have the service manual for 2002 and the key programming described in it isn't like what you describe. I am thinking about adding a key and may test this out. Incidentally, to clarify an earlier post regarding the number of keys supported, the service manual states that it is four. Programming a fifth will supercede the first of the four programmed previously.

How is the procedure on your manual? Is it different from the 2003?

There's quite a few Lexus Sc430 transponder keys on ebay, ~ $14. It will need cutting and programmed.

Locksmith will cut it, and we can program. Should we try it?
