Default My solution

As Habious previously stated The NavTool gives you aux video inputs (the yellow input in the pic) plus one dedicated to my backup camera. The inputs jacks are in my bottom console.

For my audio, I used the VaisTech that he mentioned. Those are the red/white inputs. That allows me to play My Ipod, video game, or port dvd player. Being installed right next to the 12v plug makes it all convenient. Works great!

I have plans to get an install quote tomorrow. Of course the dash kit will be fabricated, either a steel plate or one with a black leather finish. So it won't be an ugly plastic kit by Metra or Schoche.

The head unit will be a single din instead of a double din, so it will be easier to replace 5 years or so from now when it's time to upgrade plus give me better options. I also don't want to have the nav and the stereo in the same unit, this way I can keep using the nav while controling the stereo (most 2 in 1 units are fully touch screen or close to it and you can't view the map when you are using the menus to control the radio part).

Not sure which nav I will be getting yet. The stock on looks so outdated and blah. It really needs to be updated with some a cool GUI.

I'll be getting the same one that's in my other car, the Alpine ida-x305. This unit as is only plays radio, but FULLY controls an iPod, as well as shows the ENTIRE iPod display. Plus I like the huge volume **** on the unit and the ergonomics.

And I can add any standard aftermarket amp to it via straight RCA instead of using hi-low converters that deteriorates the sound.

Standard amps will be compatible (with impedance) so I'll also be able to add any after market speakers that fit. With the stock amp and speaker you have almost no choice out there with those crazy wacko impedance values. And those stock speakers sound like crapola.

I'm probably get a Nakamichi Dragon tape deck. Because the stock one in there really sucks with only Dolby B. The Dragon has Dobly C and DBX plus 3 heads so I can actually play back the tape with only a 20 milliseconds delay while I am recording from the FM tuner...right! Who the hell even wants to LOOK at that shi*ty tape deck in our beautiful Lexus!??? LOL!!

I'd like to see what you get for a quote. Which shop are you going to?

I kind of gave up on the whole bluetooth thing.

If i had to do it again, I'd go with the Kenwood KOS-V500 because it works with a wireless remote and is bluetooth ready.
Just read your other post... can you comment, with the Hub installed, can you access your factory FM? You mentioned you installed JL cleansweep but is this required? I don't care for AM or CD but wonder if FM would still work.

I have been thinking about replacing my ML with this see what you guys think?
http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PU...rs/AVH-P3200BT because everything should work with a after market harness adaptor.

I thought I'd add my $0.02.

Here's what I did to my car. See post #11: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sc-...ml#post4879629

I have no plans of getting rid of this car, so I didn't think twice about replacing the ML system.

yeah i might actually make it my next project and replace the dvd screen with a newer better one and get the pioneer with gps addon and use a aftermarket harness kit for the cables to run on my ML speaker system till i replace the speakers. I hope that will work? i like what you did with yours.

I have a similar kenwood setup. they just installed the nav where the 6 disc was and a streen on the top i can tilt. i can play ANYTHING on top and ANYTHING on bottom. so if i want nav on top and dvd on the bottom i can. dvd on the top and nav on the bottom, same. it s a nice setup, and it still have the bluetooth, ipod setup, voicecall, etc plus garmin technology. it plays dvds too. i will post pics when the stereo, etc is done. look for it monday after the Auto Rama here in cleveland.

and FYI, its debuting here, so if you are in the area, come show your support!

Please post pictures! And if you don't mind, could you let me know how you made a mount and how much time/ labor it took to install. I am also curious to know how much a audio specialist would charge for such a job.

Just left the shop late last night. It came out really really nice. We have a long way to go with fiberglassing the center console and painting all the woodgrain, etc, but stereo will be done just in time for the show. The screen going up top is hopefully going to be new, but might use existing nav. Not sure the color and quality of the screen for watching DVDs or anything so I'm hesitant.

That video on YouTube is how it will be. However after looking at it you have to basically disassemble the stock nav screen, keep the outer plastic trim, and mold a new screen onside keeping the front door trim piece and gears that make it shut....
My only real fear is ruining the oem nav screen and not being able to sell it later. But oh well. I'll send pics this weekend.
