Default LED Upgrades

OK first props to SCDropTop for the info on the LED for the DRLs his DIY directions were terrific and I only manage to break on garnish clip.

Now on with the relentless pursuit LED perfection and puddle lights for the rocker panels below the door. I found some automotive grade external LED lamp, mounts and wiring harness.

Does anyone know if our door scuff plate light, you know the golden orange glowing "LEXUS" pulls 12vDC? I can't find my multimeter to measure it.

I've pulled the sill plate and found the connector. If there's 12v DC I can install a a couple of vampire connectors and add the puddle lights door entry illumination system.

Bob you are out of control! A LED machine! You can get those clips for $2.88 each at your local dealer. Really easy to put back.

There was a post a while back between mrblister and some others on the scuff plates and someone had taken it apart. Did you search already? You might ask him. I think vietprince was in the conversation as well.

Please post some pics of your DRL's!!!!

$ 2.88 each... you're kidding for a dimes worth of plastic! Gotta love those Lexus profit centers. Broke one of the hood insulation retaining clips when I was replacing a defective window washer sprayer after getting the car. The dealer wanted $4.50 for one of those larger clips. Anyway, did some research and found a wholesaler back East. I ordered a couple dozen, cause I knew I be tinkering under the hood so I'd need some.

I did find out something I didn't know before during the change out...DRLs won't fire up if the parking brake is engaged when you first start the car. Drove me crazy for awhile but finally found out this little tidbit when doing some post install investigation.

Hey there VVTiBob, as far as the puddle lites go I installed a set on my wife's red SC and wired them to the door sill lites and they worked perfect, 12v source. The hardest part is getting the carpet pulled back to access the rubber gromet in the floor!!

Thanks mdpuff... that will save the cost of a new multimeter. I have the side skirt/rocker panel off, now to figure out the best path for the wiring. I was thinking of penetrating the lower side rail, but I can also come up through the wheel well... have to give this one some thought. Do you have any pics of your install?
