Question Top Flex noise- question for the guru's out there!

Ok..here is a recent observation on my 04 --Jade.

I have noticed now that I have had her for a little while the following.

As I back out of the drive way, and as I go out on a slight angle- the top flexes, or seems to flex, and I hear these noises in the roof or side roof panel areas. I am not overly concerned.. but..

Bob's 02 does not make these noises. In the other SC's I have driven ( about 3-4 of them), I do not remember hearing these noises.

I also hear these noises when I go over some bumps.

Now my concern is..are there some possible issues with the roof panel itself? Maybe some problems with the arms supporting the roof structure that are getting loose-- and should I be looking for something more major.?

Next question to you all.. anyone else have these kinds of noises?

And finally..where should I go with this? I do not want the dealer to say..
"Well it's an 04..it's not new.. what do you expect?"

Ok so.. let me hear your thoughts on this!
Thanks one and all..

Katy

Katy-had noises on both my SC's. The 2002 seemed to do it a little more than Ebony. I don't have a hilly driveway, but it does twist slightly on a slight incline (very slight).

I'd say most of my drop tops I've owned had some type of roll or flex. Just as long as you have no wind noise, no leaks, etc--you guessed it, they'll probably not do anything. Hey, guess what though? You've got a CPO! If it bugs you-take it in.

if you noticed when you close the top, just look up at the corners inside the cabin as the top comes down. there's a tiny gap on each corner upper left and upper right. therefore, it's normal that you will get somewhat of a flex noise as you go over bumps and driveways on the road.

I've sat in my friend's SC430 and both of ours have very minor flex noise.

I don't worry about much since I hear every so often.

Default Not to worry then!

Ok guys..so I should not worry then. It just seems like when I first got her, there was no noise..now there seems to be more noise. I think I may take it to the dealer just to hear what they have to say.

Besides that's .. she goes great.. very good gas MPG as well!

my only complaint has been a rattling of the top hinges.
it only occurs when I'm the lone occupant.
with two, the rattling doesn't occur.
not a deal breaker, but something just to get used to.
it seems to be a weight balance thing.

I have not noticed any top torching sounds over uneven surfaces.

Noticed some squeaking from the upper right rear side of my roof when I drive on uneven ground. Not all the time, just off and on. I'm not too bothered by it to be honest.

My top on my 02 has squeaks and rattles in certain situations, mostly rainy ones. I greased all the gaskets with silicone lube in the late summer. It helped some, but not a lot. Perhaps repeated applications (or having treated them more in the past) would do more.

As for the creaking, I sprayed white lithium grease on all the joints I could find in the top and its mechanisms. Aside from that, I expect some metal wear over time, which could cause some parts to move more than they did.

One more reason to hate the winter. I never hear those sound when the top's down.

sounds like a psuedo-consensus. Funny thing is the smaller the car the less flex. My S2000 Honda had no flex. Was also like riding on a go-cart with a 10k redline too!
