Default buying 2006 - Question on tires

I am buying a 2006 SC430 and was told that lexus changed the suspension so that run flats no longer provide the harsh ride they did on my 20041 SC430. Is this true and should I stay with run flats on the 06. thanks, Bob

Don't know if they made a change or not, but I HATED the runflats on my '06. Switched them about a year ago to BF Goodrich g-force supersport A/S and love them. My problem wasn't so much the harsh ride (I actually liked the feel) it was the tracking on the road. The car pulled all over the place whenever there were imperfections on the pavement.

+1, on my 06 the runflats sucked. I went for the luxo smooth ride.

I've got a 2006 that I bought about a year ago as a CPO. The dealer had just put on Dunlop 5000 RFTs. I had read here that they are not supposed to last very long. I was glad to hear that since I hate the damn things. I have about 10,000 miles on them at this time and they look almost new. Why aren't they wearing out fast like they are supposed to? What am I doing wrong? Please help me wear these things out.

check the shoulders -- inside -- that's where they wear right now. Mine only lasted 15k miles. BobS -- not sure where in CA you are, but Western Tire in Burbank is the best.

BobS, welcome to CL, you'll find in this forum, two major gripes about our SC 430's, ML speakers and run flat tires. Get rid of the RF's, they suck no matter what year car you have! Good Luck

Default No Run Flats for me

I previously purchased a used 2004 SC430 after doing my research on this forum. The car had run flats on it and they were very obvious on my test drive on Paradise Dr. in Tiburon CA. I immediately, even though they were in good shape, replaced them with some good tires!

I believe the seller did not understand that buying new tires would make a fantastic difference in how the car drove, all to my benefit. The dealer is going to put Bridgestone Potenza RE960AS on the car at my request as he has to replace a couple of the tires anyway.

Let the good times roll!

congrats on your new purchase. I concur with all the other experts...RFT's suck! Get some new tourmalines or g-spiders and some nice yokos or some nice aftermarket 20's with dunlops or yokos and you will be very happy with the aesthetics, ride, tracking and aggressive look with staggered in the rear.
