Hi,

I got an 2007 PB SC430 last Dec., I loved the BT sych to my cell phone. People said it sounded great, even with the top down.

A few months later I started getting complaints that my voice was not clear. My end of the conversation still sounds fine.

I stopped by Lexus service; they showed me how to adjust the BT gain. I tried all the settings no help.

I asked them to replace the BT microphone, they said the mic either works or not; they don't have issues with the microphone sound quality.

Any suggestions? Can I install a 3rd party microphone?

I don't have BT in my '02 but what problems are you hearing about. Is it fuzzy, crackly, breaking up, missing sylables, or the first or last part of the word getting cut off?

If it is just noisy, you could just have a bad connection to the microphone or noise could be getting in there from a bad plug or plug wire or any number of other things. Describe the noise.

I would tell them to humor you and install a new microphone. It takes about 15 min the whole job. The microphone is in the map light assemble which comes out by removing the two map light lens and then unscrew 2 screws and the entire map assemble comes down . unplug the connector and then they can remove the microphone and replace it. I dont know if an after-market microphone would be compatible. I would tell you to check your cell phone and make sure that the phone is working correctly. If you have a friend that has a 2005 sc430 up to the 2009 you could pair your phone to his system and see if it works any better in another car.

Any idea what the part number is? I Called the parts dept they told me I had to purchase the entire dome light assemble ($1100)

You might try some aftermarket folks like Car Toys for a microphone replacement.

Quite honestly, that doesn't sound like a microphone issue. Have you recently changed phones or service? It is also possible that it is the head unit. It sounds like the anti-echo capability is not working properly and that is not a function of the microphone.

One thing I have learned the parts department just want to sell assemblies . I am often amazed at there lack of knowledge . i would make a call direct to Lexus and let them know. they do not like the stories of this kind of lack of service, I would advise you to stand your ground . Why is your car not still in waarranty You said it was a 2007 are you over 50,000 miles.

You can also do a search on Sewell's website for "microphone". I did and found plenty, including microphone amplifiers. The microphone used should be the same for all Lexus cars, is my guess.

Probably the best way is to take the microphone out and carry it into the parts department and say "I need one of these". It always help to have the part in hand so that you can verify that the replacement you are buying is actually the correct part (same size and shape, same connector, etc.).

You could try calling Sewell also. I believe that forum members have a discount with Sewell, but that may be a web only discount and I don't know what the promo code is.

Thanks will do. Our usual Lexus guy service was out of town for the last 2 weeks. When he gets back I am going to "encourage" him to replace the mic. Especially now that I know it isn't an $1100 part.

Thanks, I will try but it looks like none of those apply to an SC430.

The only hits I get for an SC430 mic are aftermarket options like speakers and headsets.

Oh well, will ping them Monday morning

Like I mentioned earlier, I don't expect the microphone to be SC430 specific. I expect that it will be a generic microphone. Microphones are cheap.

If nothing else, ask your service guy to try one and make a call right there. If it doesn't fix the problem, it is either deeper into the BT equipment (anti-echo circuitry) or in your phone or service.

I have a 2008 SC 430, and I can't understand anyone when they call, and they can't hear me clearly. Lexus has tried to fix my problem twice, even got a new speaker. Nothing has changed, good thing is I haven't been charged anything, I am going to bring it back, and have them call me while I am sitting in the car, so they can hear how terrible the Bluetooth system is, I didn't have this problem when I first bought the car, I have changed phones, but I don't think that is the cause. I will let the forum know if they finally fix the problem.
