Default 2004 SC430 Daytime Running Light Change

The Daytime running lights on this car drive me nuts. My 2007 GX has daytime lights also but they don't bother me nearly as much as on the SC. What are the possible fixes. If the color of the light bulb was white or that blue color some people use that would be fine but this soft weak color does the car no justice.

Purchased the car last year with 13k on the odometer. White with the Ecru interior. Love it. Has 20k now and am about ready to put some non run flats on to improve the ride. This site is a good resource and very similar to those that I post on freq for boating.

Any thoughts would be great. Dumb it down for me a bit. I am a boat guy and mainly use my cars as pure transportation and not a hobby but I do like to look good and these lights suck.

I just did this today. All you need to do is remove the 168 bulb and voila'. No bulb out indicator

I also hated those yellow lights. The high beams have nothing to do with DRL.

Johnny,

What you are referring to is the oval shaped lights (parking lights) that are located on the outer most side of the headlights. Those use the 168 (wedge type bulb) and you can simply buy bulbs that will match the color of your hids.

Now what CWK is talking about is the day time running lights.
Basically whenever your headlights are not on your high beams are on switched on. The drl module gives the high beams half the power they would usually receive if you switched on your high beams and this again is to emits just enough light so the car can be seen at day time.

CWK to turn off the drl option you need to either pull the drl fuse which will also disable your high beams, or go to the dealership and ask them to disable that feature by modifying your C-best settings.

I'm going to have to check again but I'm pretty sure once I pulled those 168's there was no more light at all. The high beams produced no light at all.

I did do the '06 conversion, not sure if that makes a difference.

Can anyone confirm that the drl light comes from the high beam and not the wedge bulb?

My DRLs come on with my highbeams which are 9005 bulbs at half power in my 06 headlights

ok, just got my car back. I am 100000000% that pulling the 168 bulbs took away the DRL.

i will have to take pics or whatever to show, but i no longer have that yellow light.

Gamma, take a real good look at where that light is coming from, I don't think its coming fromyour high beam.

The DRL light is definitely from the high beam for sure, but probably only runs at half power or less. You can use LED DRL kit from V-Leds to make it look white, but you will lose your high beam.

TW,

I know you did the conversion, explain to me how my high beams are not putting out any light. Going to go out and start my car right now. With no headlights on the DRL should come on right?

ok, just went out there again. There is no yellow light at all. I really think that anyone with '06 headlights needs to remove the the little bulb and see if the high beams produce this "half power" light.

I tried every light combo and they only yellow is the high beams and fogs.

I can't be the only one.

so you are saying that you only have drl, but have no high beam?

I am confused...
so you have no drl. Your high beam works. The only yellow light you see is from the 168/194 parking light.

Your DRL is disabled most likely. Did you have DRL before the conversion?

I have all the lights except for DRL. I went to change out the high beams because I thought they were providing the yellow light. After I swapped in the new 4000k high beam the yellow light was still there. That is when i realized the yellow was coming from the wedge bulb and not the high beam.

I hope someone can prove me wrong, but i say that it looks like the high beam is working at half power, but in actuality its the wedge bulb
