This has been one of my favorite threads and I have learned a lot.

While driving today, I learned that when you completely lose traction and are careening down the road, the car goes "bing, bing, bing" for some reason.

Perhaps this is the stability control saying, "I'M OUTTA HERE, YOU'RE ON YOUR OWN."

One winter night I was driving at a steady speed on a flat road @35 mph and things were getting slushy. I thought all was okay until the dreaded bing-bing-bing! I've Got It! I've Got It! NOT I DON'T!!! The computer had masked the problem, silently, right up to where it gives up and hands it over to you without any warning; Nice . . .Scary! The car stays in the garage now and I take our LX when things are even thinking about getting bad. Period.

Bon-I've done this with the traction off, c-gate manual shifting and power mode and smoked the rear tires/wheels around the corner to prove to my SC-unworthy friend that these cars are powerful! He said, "OH S***!!" and grabbed on to the door handle and said he was very surprised.

Bon-
Oh man! You have a LX too? You're a lucky man! That's my dream garage...SC and LX, LS for rainy days or cold days! My FX35 is great, but it's not a "real" SUV. There's nothing like the Gen 2 LX470 IHHO. I don't like the LX570.

I thought that the traction control's way of saying "Look, you're clearly out of your element here...I'm taking over" and it backs off on the throttle.

There are a couple of entrance ramps in the DC area that have VERY short merge areas. When I'm coming up to them, I always turn the traction control off because, when I get on it, I need to car to GO...right then. None of this crap where the VSC starts telling me "Now hold on there a second Hoss. Are you sure you want to hit it that hard? Perhaps you should rethink this."

I'm a good enough driver that I can compensate if the back end steps out a little bit. It's not so simple to compensate when you've got 3 seconds to merge...and the car decides to cut the throttle for 2 seconds!

I know what you mean about entering on ramps.
even in the PWR mode, there's a bit of a lag.
thanks for the tip. I'll try it.

Just read on Edmunds.com.(.there is a little Lexus postings there), that if you lock your SC 430 in the garage, it will help save the battery from running down so fast when the car sits. I do not know if this is true , but it sounded good to me.

You mean I have been bad!!!!! I leave it unlocked in the garage all the time. Sometimes with the top down too!!!!!! I hope they don't find out and take her away from me for neglect or mistreatment or something.

It must "lock" in the power so it can't get out. I think that's why they put up fences around electric power plants & sub stations.

I have often experimented with the lock/unlock thing with my garage queens. It SEEMS to me that either way, there is something draining your battery slowly either way.

Why do you all think that locking it (running the anti-theft, clock is still on, etc) actually saves the battery?

Very interesting...I'd love to see if anyone else has personal experience testing this.

Ironically the dealer by me (which I bet a TON of SC's are just garage queens at) sell these battery charger kits like hotcakes in their little store! $99
