Need help!!!!! I cant smog my car
Hi everyone,
I have my first problem with my car and of course its after my warranty ended so I'm sol. i have to smog my car for registration but my check engine is on and it wont pass.i took it down to Lexus in van nuys California and had the head mechanic look at it and he told me that he got a code for misfiring of the driver side 4 cylinders and a o2 sensor code and to replace the o2 sensor and it should be fine as the coils are OK. But they just wanted way to much to get it done so i took it to my local mechanic he put it on the diagnosis computer and got the same codes for misfiring of the driver side 4 cylinders and a o2 sensor code so we replaced the plugs(just in case) an the sensor but the misfiring and the check engine light came back after 1 day. they checked all the wiring and they couldn't find any thing wrong. what do i do is there any one out there that has had this issue or know what i need to do. any input would be appreciated.
Thanks
Guy

oh, but it is!
While not the Queen's english, in California it is very common to get one's car "smogged", or to smog your car. Very few people go to the lengths of saying "I need to take my car for a smog check". As for the problem: is it possible that the new O2 sensor is bad too?

Lexus Test Driver
Don't think the queen would know what a smog test was, she calls it an mot test
I would also guess a faulty 02 sensor. Was it Lexus one or a cheap eBay one you fitted?

Verb? Even in California?
California invented smog, and later the smog test. Of course, we verbed it.
Topically, we also verbed the placing of flowers on Rose Bowl floats. If you're placing carnations on the float, you are "carning" and if you're placing roses, you are "rosing."
Look for the Bank of America float in this year's parade. For two weeks, I carned and rosed that organic behemoth.
(Yeah, I know - "verbed" is probably not a gerund, even in California. )

It ain't easy going back to my grammar school days in the 40's, but if I'm not mistaken, a gerund is a verb masquerading as a noun. Because "verb" is a noun, it can't be a gerund.
If you want to make a verb out of "verb", eg, "She verbed him until he strangled her", then I suppose you can make a gerund out of the verb, "verb" (this is reverberating), eg, "Verbing among Rose Bowl nuts is commonplace."
Now I'm off to rose my sweetheart and carn my lapel.
