Secret to nav disc loading?
Ok, got an OEM 7.1 nav disc for my gen 2/3 2002 sc430 and popped it in with nav on, all I get is "no disc detected". The old v 1 disc reloads and works fine.
To all the nav upgraders: am I doing something wrong? The disc is for gen 2/3 02 sc430...
thanks

Updating 2002 SC430 with 7.1 Nav Disk
I updated my 2002 SC430 from original version (2.1?) to 7.1 with a copy disk I made on my computer. No problems, so if you are using an OEM original disk, then perhaps your Nav drive is acting up. Try looking at the files with your computer. This is not a fool proof test, because I have been able to read the files on a Nav disk on my computer when the vehicle could not.
If the computer shows the files are there, then keep trying the disk in your car. Maybe after a few more attempts, it might work. For awhile anyway. I am not very encouraging, I know. I have had a few disappointments with my wife's 01 LS430. Version 5.1 OEM works fine, but it can't read the same 7.1 disk that my SC430 uses every day.
More on this, I did get the 7.1 to work in the LS430 for about a week. Then the famous no disk or can't read disk error. I put the 5.1 back in and it has been working fine for 6 months or so. By the way, 7.1 looks a little better and the menu is slightly changed; but the 5.1 is just fine. Just confusing when you get used to one version and then ride in the wife's car with an older version. Took me awhile to find the menu selection to suspend navigation. I know guys, the LS430 will use voice commands, if your wife can press the correct button on the steering wheel.
In my research on these Lexus Nav systems, I have read that the Nav drives in the older cars get to a point where they have trouble reading the disks, especially the more recent disk versions which I understand have more complex software and maps. We are talking here about generation 2/3 systems, not comparing them to the later generation systems.
