Default 2004 SC430 New Wheels_What's Best?

Guys,

I've got oem 5 spoke wheels on my '04 sc430.
It's about time to put new tires on it and I'm thinking about upgrading the wheels. I saw the new '08-09 oem 6 spoke wheels and like them a lot.

Rather than go to a dealer and buy them (no dealer around here), any ideas on how to get a set of these or something very close. The sculpting on these looks great with the 430's contours.

What do you think?

OEM's go up for sale here in the classifieds and on ebay all the time... just gotta look. If you're going to spend $$$ might as well upgrade to 19 or 20's imho.

My take on wheels for an SC430 is that the car is not a high performance race car. Lots of the after market wheels look like racing, aggressive and do nothing for the unique, sculptural look of the car.

I think Lexus got it right with the wheels I'm showing at top, but if you have other ideas, please include me in. What other wheels?

BTW: just saw a post with G-Spiker wheels. a nice cross between performance and style.

Thanks. jimmer

i agree that racing/5-spoke wheels don't look right on an sc430. but there are a lot of "VIP" styles that look much nicer than any stock wheels. i went with these. i've lowered it since then and they look even better.

you might like some of the work euroline wheels. or auto couture.

They look nice, but the Lexus G-Spyder wheels on an SC430 look fantastic. Someone posted a picture here a few weeks ago.

those are winners, jason. looks strong.
here's a swipe from that G-Spider post.
I'm drawn between the 08 OEM Lexus wheel and the G-Spider.

i'd recommend going to a meet in your area if there is one and seeing some wheels in person. pictures don't always do them justice. once you see them in real life, the craftsmanship and quality of good aftermarket wheels is far superior to anything stock. it's really a night and day comparison.

Agree with your take on the SC. Since you also mentioned about the G-spider, I guess you could look for it at Sewell Lexus under 1k.

I found what I was looking for at dealerfit.com.
OEM 10 spoke alloy 18" wheels.
they're GS wheels that fit the SC.
I thought about going to 19", but it was recommended to stay with the original size for a better ride and that is important to me.

the downside is that the wheels are on backorder, so I've got to ramp down a little and wait.

I'm going with Michelin Pilot Sport A/S tires (ZP).

here's a concept pic of the wheels. nice.
I'll post when the real mccoy is back in my garage.

reality check:
I have decided to go with conventional pilot sport a/s tires.
I'll buy a can of fix-a-flat and keep an eye out for nails.
It's funny, I read lots about these tires in forums and never did I get that everyone had switched to conventional tires. I'm glad I caught it. the tip-off was when my tire installer said that there isn't a 'zp' run flat a/s. after re-reading the blogs, the light went off.

looking forward to this famous ride I've been reading about.
new wheels and tires this weekend!

fix a flat will ruin your tire pressure sensor. you're better off getting a spare.
