napra-its been about 1 1/2 years since I bought the kit from sewell. For the $650 I paid, I am happy with the purchase. It looks luxurious as lexus should look and had everything you need, including the smaller carpet (carpet needs to be smaller with tire) that matches the rest of the trunk. It looks like the sc came that way from the factory.

You can also buy a preowned spare tire and purchase the rest of the kit from Sewell and save quite a bit.

That’s a great suggestion! I didn’t know you could purchase the kit minus the spare tire.

Yep, the folks at Sewell are really easy and very willing to work with you. They are quite nice.

I just about fell over when I found out how much Lexus wanted for their Spare kit. So I started to research a different path. I recieved many references to the Supra TT spare and found that it also was an item that was in HIGH demand. So more research led me to my solution. I purchased a factory RX8 spare tire kit and used the spare wheel, tire and wheel cover from it. It has the same size 17" wheel and tire that the lexus kit comes with but it is alloy. That means that it is lighter than the Lexus wheel. It is actually pretty good looking too. I purchased some quarter inch panel wood at the local Hardware store and using the existing trunk floor board made a duplicate of it. I then cut away the section that the spare tire occupies and then I had my new floor panel. I painted it silver to match the original one and there I had it! My kit. The original carpet fits on top of the new floor piece perfect. I have included pictures below of what I did! Also of the kit that can be picked up on Ebay for like $200.00 shipped!

RX8 kit

Spare with cover and top in trunk

Spare with cover and top up

Fabricated floor panel
Where did you buy it??? Thanks

Hi Phantom,

Re: Are you guys saying you're putting on a 17" spare?

Yes, and I believe that the actual SC430 spare is also a 17" wheel.

JerryBaumchen

PS) The concept is that you quickly get your existing tire repaired/replaced ASAP and not go at high speeds with the Space Saver Spares.

That is correct. It is a 17" spare going on your car that has 18" wheels. The Lexus solution also uses a 17" spare. Even though it is a 17" wheel, the tire is not as low profile as the normal tires and therefore the over all diameter is the same as the 18' setup. I hope that makes sense.....The RX8 wheel is also alloy versus the Lexus steel wheel. You should be able to find one on Ebay.....

Great info - I was not about to spend $775 for a Lexus Spare! Yikes!

This will prevent me from having to spend $$$$$$$ on run flats, which are a huge false sense of security.

Thanks again,

Mark

This was sent to me by our local Mazda dealer. Your sure the mazda fits a 2007 stock lexus? Thanks

Hello,

The part # TR30-18-9470 is a tire only in size T125/70/R17 - which we no longer order from Mazda, but through a tire program of Mazda's. That would be a Bridgestone TRACOMPA SPARE BW that would be $221.00 plus tax and mounting and balancing. I can get one in a few days if you like.

Hi farkas

Did you have to buy different lugnuts for the Mazda rim or did the lexus lugs work?

It seems as Mazda has changed their kits now for a spare tire kit to omit the tire itself....So be careful what you order as it may not be the complete kit that was cheap and available at the time of this original post.
