Default New SC300 based on SC430 body

The new SC300 Coupe is coming to the showrooms for the 2003 model year according to Marc Evans from Longo Lexus. Also the SC300 is supposed to be based on the SC430 body but in coupe form and using the 3 liter engine.

Marc mentioned that these cars should be showing up in the fall. I can't wait....

Default Not yet

Not yet but I hoping to get some soon. I was told that the greenlight was giving for this model to come out. Be nice to see spec's and prices as well.

Personally Id rather not see one made. Id much prefer the elite status of the car. However im sure the economics of toyots feels otherwise. Its just that and M3 convertible is a 318, 323, 325, 328 and 330. It really takes away from the car in my opinion

Couldn't agree more.. Especially after dropping 84G's CDN on this ride it will be hard to see 50G - 60G CDN versions next year.. Oh well i'm sure it will be a big hit like the SC430.. At least this way we will see more aftermarket body parts come out if they use the same body style but no convertible option..

Im just curious what it will look like, if its not convertible. Lexus has the task of NOT making the back look more beautiful then that of the SC430, and of course we all know the back is so long and bulky for the roof to fit in it. So I would be really suprised if they did something, well thruthfully I cant even guess. But imagine the consequences of making the SC300 more visually appealing then the SC, I would cry my lil eyes out.

I had heard last spring that there might be a 6-cylinder SC which may very likely have a 5-speed manual transmission. If it's as attractive as the 430 AND if it has a 5 (or 6)-speed, then I will seriously consider selling my 430 to buy one. I can get by without a convertible, but I sure do miss a manual transmission.

For the SC300, I wonder how much weight they can drop without the drop-top. I would hope it's around a couple of hundred pounds lighter, so it'll be around GS300 curb weight, hence similar straight line performance numbers. A manual gearbox would be a plus. E-shift would also be good. Throw in an AWD SC300, and we're talking!

Good call 1SICKLEX.. I remember you mentioning this same thing months ago.. Figure they will be bumping the power on the 430 engine to around 340 - 350 hp in the next year or so.. I would say the 300 model would be in the 250 - 260 hp range with a few tweaks.. Just mindless rambling but you never know..

my render of the SC300, UZZ41.

Same front end, re-designed second 1/2 of the car. rear pillar is slanted back even more, re-designed trunk without the function to fold backward for the top. no b-pillar, rear 1/4 windows can be rolled down.

Standard wheels are 17". Sports package includes sport-tuned suspension (L-Tuned, soon to be released for SC430 also) and 18" Volk Racing TE37 wheels. Aluminum trim interior, 2-tone black/red or black/grey or black/blue leather seats. standard 5-speed automatic transmission with E-Shift or 5-speed sequential manual transmission.

I'm dreaming too much

But i've always looked forward to the new bodystyle SC300 without the convertible.

IMO it looks too much like a 350Z in coupe form.

An uglier wheel? Dunno if that's possible...then again...

I think you pretty much summed up what I would think they should do with the new SC300 (I doubt it'll be a 330). ML and Nav should definitely be options....

Your picture inspires a great idea.
While the IS300 and C-class Merc's compete, why not make a coupe in between the two -- the SC300?

The C240 is pretty slick for an inexpensive Mercedes. It looks more expensive than it is (to me, of course). I agree with other posts to strip the SC300 down more than the SC3/400's of old.

BTW, is the new Toyota Matrix based on the IS300 SportCross?

The Matrix is a totally new car. It is a sports-wagon setting, and the Matrix is actually a hybrid van/SAV/wagon kinda thing. (Think of IS300 SportCross as a WRX wagon, and the Matrix as a Honda Fit.)

The Matrix is a totally new concept...but it's underpinnings are from the new Corolla...
