Default New Tires - Which Ones Are Best?

I have to replace my tires for the SC for the first time, and the guy at Sears suggested i replace the Dunlop's that were on there with new Dunlops. Can anyone suggest a good tire for the SC? I do not want to go too cheap, but if there is a really good tire that works for that car, can someone suggest?

do you want to stay with runflats? i personally would suggest against it. yes it seems "safer", but the ride is so harsh. plus you have tire monitors already anyway

i personally like the michelin pilot sport a/s a lot, very good tires

btw, welcome to CL

have you checked with tirerack? their prices are typically better than the brick and mortar stores. I've got a set of General tires (non-runflat) and they performed excellently both in dry and wet weather so far.

A lot of the guys are using the Michelin Pilot Sport a/s.

I'm using the Bridgestone Potenza RE960 a/s (non runflat) I don't know how it could be any better ride and found it to be a litlle less costly. (Discount Tire) with 40K warranty, free rotation and all the good stuff Discount Tire gives ya.

I suggest to stay away from run-flats, (if you're looking for a lexus ride) but that's my opinion and is shared with others on this site.

if I go from run flats to conventional tires what about the tire monitors...any adjustments or calibration?

Thanks

I can vouch for Dunlops. I have had them on my cars for the past 5-6 years.

I have the Sport A2's from Dunlop. Great traction and treadwear, the rating is A and AA. Im sure they have a more performance based tire for the SC's needs.

No issues, other than the folks doing the install need to be careful not to break a sensor. My local discount tire has a bunch of "extra" TPMS sensors, but if they have to swap one out you'll have to go back to the dealer to get the new number programmed in. Which means, make sure your installers record the TPMS #s when they do the swap!

I also have the Potenza's on the stock "premium" wheels, though I'm thinking of moving to the GS 5-spokes.

+1.
I had some Bridgestone Potenzas and they were harsh!
My cousin has Toyos on his SC and they ride pretty nice too.

I kept with the dunlops when it was time to switch. I've never had a issue with the 'harsh' ride, in fact, it doesn't feel harsh at all to me (maybe because I've been more accustomed to a BMW ride prior to this car).

I think if you haven't had a problem with the 'harsh' ride that seems to deter others, then I'd stay with what you have - there is extra safety in the run-flats. However, if you do have issues with the ride, it seems that the michelin pilots are the most common choice.

Another issue with the run-flats is that they tend to follow seams in the pavement (which you may or may not have in your area). Can be very disconcerting to the unaware.
