Default Wheels Wheels Wheels

That is all that has been on my mind since I bought this car I have looked at just about every wheel I can think of and have a huge file of SC pictures now. The only problem is of course everything I like is $1000 a wheel it seems like. I got a lot of help from Romini in the beginning of my searches too. So I finally I found a deal on some used wheels, and since the price is right and they are in good shape why not I did buy my car used. Only concern is the size I know they will fit but the front is a little wider than most run. The setup is a 20x9.5 +30 front and 20x10.5 +29 rear. I will have to get tires and I am going 255/30/20 front and I plan to a 305/25/20 rear and if not I guess 285's will have to do. But these cars don't need anything else to slow them off the start especially to tall of tire out back will only hurt the gearing along with the extra rotating weight of 20's and the fatter rubber almost scares me how much I am going to hurt my take off. But hopefully I will look good going slower.

Below is what I played with to help decide on wheels and tires

Stock 18" Wheel Specs Width 8 inches Offset +45 mm

New Front 20" Wheel Specs Width 9.5 inches Offset +30 mm
Inner Clearance: 4mm = 0.16 in LESS (the inside of the wheel to the strut housing)
Outer Position: EXTEND an extra 34mm = 1.34 in (position of the outside edge of the wheel)

New Rear 20" Wheel Specs Width 10.5 inches Offset +29 mm
Inner Clearance: 16m = 0.63 in LESS (the inside of the wheel to the strut housing)
Outer Position: EXTEND an extra 48mm = 1.89 in (position of the outside edge of the wheel)

Stock Tires- 245/40R18

Section Width: 9.64 in 245 mm
Rim Diameter: 18 in
Rim Width Range: 8 - 9.5 in
Overall Diameter: 25.71 in
Sidewall Height: 3.85 in

Tire - 245/30R20
Section Width: 9.64 in 245 mm
Rim Diameter: 20 in
Rim Width Range: 8 - 9.5 in
Overall Diameter: 25.78 in
Sidewall Height: 2.89 in
Diameter Difference: 0.28%

Tire - 255/30R20
Section Width: 10.03 in 255 mm
Rim Diameter: 20 in
Rim Width Range: 8.5 - 9.5 in
Overall Diameter: 26.02 in
Sidewall Height: 3.01 in
Diameter Difference: 1.2%

Tire - 285/30R20
Section Width: 11.22 in 285 mm
Rim Diameter: 20 in
Rm Width Range: 10 - 11 in
Overall Diameter: 26.73 in
Sidewall Height: 3.36 in
Diameter Difference: 3.82%

Tire - 305/25R20
Section Width: 12.00 in 305 mm
Rim Diameter: 20 in
Rim Width Range: 10.5 - 12 in
Overall Diameter: 26.00 in
Sidewall Height: 3.00 in
Diameter Difference: 1.12%

I know most run a 245/30/20 and a 285/30/20 on our cars in 20", But I think the best setup for me to try is what I have in bold above. The sidewalls will be 3" thick they are both 26" tall only slightly taller than stock. So as long as the 9.5" rim doesn't cause me any issues and the 305/25/20 doesn't rub on the inside or outside from its width I think I will be happy.
I can't wait to get the wheels and order tires and start test fitting I will get some pictures up for sure. Let me know what you guys think. I just can't wait until it's done and they are on the car so I can focus on something else

I think the more popular 20" tire size is 245/35/20, not 245/30/20 in the front.
Members choose the out of stock spec for the ride comfort.
Since the overall diameter for that setup is about 1" more than stock wheels, BBK is usually recommended.

Some do keep stock specs by choosing 245/30/20 in the front and 285/25/20 in the rear, but these ride like craps due to the much thinner sidewalls.

255/30R20 and 305/25R20 are fine, but I suggest you check their price tags first.

I made a typo and you caught it. I was going through so many #'s, I meant 245/35/20 so good catch. I did some checking on prices Nitto has come out with a couple new tires the INVO and the NEOGEN. I have run Nitto's in the past and have had great luck with them the only other affordable tires in those sizes are the Falken FK452's but I think you get what you pay for with those. I can get into the Nitto's installed for just under $1000 for all 4 and the Falken's are about $75 cheaper. I have some friends at a local discount tire store luckily so I get a pretty good deal and they don't mind doing a few test fit's until I am happy so at least I won't be stuck not liking the tires.

No one's a** is getting busted. Although $1000 a wheel does sound a bit high, I can guarantee that quite a few people have paid more than $4000 for their wheels, tires, mount, balance, etc. On top of that, I know that they got a good deal on it too.

BTW Johnnyreno, from other posts, can I gather you are one bruddah from the islands? If so, where?

im going to be running 235/35/20 and 275/30/20 front/rear with falken FK's. the fk line is actually really good, especially if you're trying to stretch a thinner tire. ive got 20x9 +30 and 20x11 +37 front/rear wheel sizes.

So maybe $1000 a wheel is a lot but seriously most nice 3 piece rims are forged then step up to 20" wheels and you end up between $800 and $1000+ for each once you figure in taxes and or shipping. But to get the look I want you have to go multi piece and forged and so that leaves you with brands like MHT, Maya, Trafficstar, Forgeline, HRE, Modulare that make wheels I love. And those are just a few.

err... trafficstar (thus maya as well) are not forged. in fact if you look at jdm wheels, most of them are not forged at all. it's only recent years that there are more forged multipiece in japan

if you don't mind me asking as I am curious myself. Can you name a fews that fall into this category? I know some brands offer forged wheels in their line up (i.e. Amistad has Type R (Rotino) 22" forged -3 pieces design, Type K (Klaud) 21" forged -1 piece design, Work: Rezax Universal, etc.)
