The front thin frame has a screw on the back (mirror cover with chrome accent) side in addition to the three on the front (glass side). You won't be able to remove the thin front frame unless you take the cover off and remove that screw. Maybe that could be the problem?

Default r/r SC430 side mirror

The problem seems to be at the hinge end of the housing. I can separate the area around the mirror, but it's stuck at the hinge.

As I did mine about three weeks ago, I'm sure I was able to dismantle the part you're referring to. Check out my thread... http://www.clublexus.com/forums/sc-4...n-signals.html... maybe it will help shed some light on the area with which you're having problems. I remember I was able to split the two pieces that surround the "arm" from the underside using a small wedge pry tool.
