Traction control error due to tires?
Hey guys, I'm having a little traction control error on my 2002 SC430 and I'd like your collective opinion.
I've been running 19x8.5 and 19x9.5 wheels for a couple of years now and had no problems. My latest tires have been getting a bit worn, so I recently had some new front tires installed. I didn't get the correct sized tires for my car because I ordered 20's on the same day and my 19's are going on my girl's Acura TL.
I'm running 225/35-19 front and 255/35-19 rear for the moment, at least until the new wheels show up. Well, the same day that I had the new tires installed on the front I get two lights on the dash: "VSC OFF" (just like if I pushed the button) and next to that I get "VSC" (which I assume is the warning light).
When I start the car but don't yet move no VSC lights display, but the moment I move the car an inch both of them light up at the same time.
My assumption is that speed sensors on the front and rear of the car are sensing the difference in rolling circumference and throwing up the error... but since this car has 80,000 miles on it I'm not sure. It could also be a failed component that just happened to occur at the same time.
Any ideas? Has this happened to anyone else?

Ya, I like the JDM look. bippu/VIP is nice... prolly gonna get an LS430 or LS460 Ultra next. The convertible is awesome, but I'm getting tired of not having room for more than a single passenger.
Anyway, I just bolted my 20x10.5's on and the problem did not go away. That means that I have a failure somewhere else. I'll try resetting the ECU, but since the error happens as soon as the wheels start turning I am betting that there is a bad wheel speed sensor or something similar. I am going to troubleshoot it myself, but I have a close friend that is a service tech at Lexus so I'll have him look at it if (when!) I can't figure it out.

Lovin the fitment on the new wheels,
Your car looks clean, are they volks?
I had a similar problem with my LS, while the key was in the on position I held in the vsc (traction) button and with in 10-15 secs the car beeped and once, Once I turned the car on the trac light went away... I know its a half A$$ write up but hope it helps

Nope, not Volks, Axis Matrix in 20x9.0 +38 F and 20x10.5 +35 R. Tires are 245/35 in front and 275/30 in the rear. I think they look pretty good, but the fronts could still be a hair wider. Oh well.
I tried holding the VSC button in and didn't get any response. (messed up in first post, it was VSC not TCM, oops, editing now) When I start the car and idle it I don't get any error lights and I can turn VSC off and on without any problems. I can even crawl forward at about 0.5MPH and I don't get an error... but once I hit about 2-3MPH I get the two lights. Time to refer to the service manual, I guess.

This might sound stupid but one night I had parked my car in some street and as it began to rain the gutter overflowed and the car had a stream of water flowing past it which had about 1/4 the tire submerged. I had the same problem as you, the lights would turn on as soon as I started moving... what had happened was some debris had logged its way into the sensor and it was making the system glitch out (i think)... So I grabbed my pressure washer and just cleaned every single part of the suspension (particularly around the sensors) ....and as soon as I took it for a drive the lights were off and never came back..
again this might sound Mickey mouse to you but it worked for me and you might wanna give it a shot.

OK, I finally fixed the problem just yesterday. I took my car in to my friend that happens to be a service tech at Lexus here in Portland. He plugged the diagnostic tool into my car, ran the test mode on the VSC system that recalibrated zero point on the yaw sensor and BAM -- everything was perfect again!
Head to Lexus, tell them to recalibrate the yaw sensor and you should be good to go. It takes about five minutes tops -- if the yaw sensor is the problem. If you are getting the two VSC lights in the gauge cluster after putting aftermarket wheels or tires on the car then it is likely the issue.

I wouldn't think too much of a dealer that would charge a good customer to do this, but if you are just walking in and don't have a contact I would assume they will charge you. Instead of calling ahead I would just swing into the service dept, tell them that you need your yaw sensor zeroed out real quick and see what they say.
