Default replacement speakers

Greetings,

I have blown the woofers in both doors of my lexus SC430 2002. It appears from some speaker guides that I have 6x9's in the doors. Well now after conculting the service department at my local Lexus dealership, that in the 2002 model there are 6 1/2 inch woofers in the doors.

They actually told me they keep woofers in stock cause they blow so much!!! They want $150 each!!! I don't want to pay $150 each for factory speakers that blow often!

Anyone face this?

I had one idiot car stereo shop suggest I put coaxial speakers for replacement! I think that is rediculous. I believe you should only replace component speakers with component speakers... OPINIONS?????????????

If your sc430 has 6x9's in the doors (i.e you ave a newer lexus) you can forget about finding component 6x9 speakers...

Actually, let me back up.. what you want is a 6x9 RAW driver or a 6 1/2 RAW driver to replace the larger speaker in your door depending on model year. A raw driver is a speaker without the tweeters and/or midrange speaker in the center of the cone. It will have bigger bass!

back to my problem... As this is a premium mark levinson stereo that is specially tuned for distortion free listening and hardtop up/down DSP voicings.... What should I do about the speakers??????

I now also wonder if 6x9's are in the newer models, can't I fit them in my later model sc430??? I'd rather have 6x9's rather than 6 1/2's in my door. OPINIONS????

HELP!!!!!!!!!! I need rockin tunes back in my car sooner than later, but I'm affraid to make a decision. The stero soudns so good, and I don't want to jeopardize the joy i have listening to my tunes...

Thanks!

Rock out with your C$#K out!

Speakers do not appear to be an issue with these cars. Some have blown-yes, but not to the degree that they are in stock at the dealer. They do often come up on Ebay for a good price. I would keep the stock speakers though and not mess with what works unless you plan on replacing the entire setup. But that is just me.

I agree with you Pearl. Try to get OEM. I have a question though. Has anyone captured on camera on how to remove the door pannel to acess the speaker? I need to replace mine. It's not blown yet but i can sence a little distorsion. Also.. is it user friendly to add some more padding to the door (behind the wood trim)?

THanks
