Default Motorola V710 class action settlement

If you own a Motorola V710 from Verizon, the class action settlement has been reached. The issue was that Verizon deactivated OBEX in Bluetooth which prevented the phone from exchanging data with other devices including your Lexus. Verizon did not disclose at time of purchase that Bluetooth OBEX was crippled. Hey Verizon, can you hear us now!

Here are your options for settlement:

1) $25.00 credit on your bill
2) Service cancellation without penalties and refund of purchase price
3) Retain Verizon service but return phone for full refund of purchase price

Here is the link for filing instructions and settlement form:
http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/f...tices/v710.jsp

I'll take option #3 and get a new phone. Still have my receipt for $256.00. Should be able to get a nice replacement for that...hummm Treo-650 ???

Default V710 Settlement

This settlement does not seem to settlment that matter of VZW providing OBEX and File Trasfer with their Bluetooth phones in the furture. That puts use Lexus owners back in the same position. Just curious why you would chose to replace the phone with another VZW Bluetooth phone when it also will not work properly. Is there something that I missed on all the Class Action documents that says that VZW will use the OBEX and File Transfer in the future? Even their latest Bluetooth phone does not include these features. As much as I don't want to move to Cingular, I see no altenative unless they are agree to change their phones to include OBEX and File Transfer. Please advise.

Default V710

I am not technical either. However, as I understand it, Bluetooth technology includes something called OBEX and File Transfer that is required to communicate with the Lexus Bluetooth system because the phonebook info can not be transferred to the Lexus car without this funcitionaility. Apparently, VZW purposefully disables these functions because they have some file transfer service that people pay for monthly or by usage that would be defeated by allowing OBEX and file transfer to exist on their phones. As such, no Verizon cell phones will work with Lexus and Lexus tells you this upfront. I hate it because I really don't want to switch to Cingular as everyone I know is with Verizon and therefore I pay nothing for calls with other VZ cell phone users, including all of my company contacts. No other cellular carrier disables these functions. However, with what little I could make out of the legal language of the Case Action Suite Settlement, VZW does not admit wrongdoing that they did not disclose it properly. They just basically say that it would be too costly to fight it so a settlement was the better option for them. If they settle this and then just properly discloss the limited abilities of their Bluetooth phones in the future, then they will be legally protected, but still the functions that Lexus owners need will still not be there. I was making the inquiry of the other poster to see if he saw or heard something that said VZW was going to add the functionaility to their future Bluetooth phones. Otherwise, I am forced to go to Cingular. Hope this explains it better.

If you want to use this feature and stay with their service get an unlocked phone with option #3. It seems each of the service providers sabotage something with their phones, then they charge you for that feature.

Sorry my bad. There isn't anything to unlock with Verizon. Their phones are not interchangeable with other services.
