For those who are interested, just about everything you might want to know about the Lexus Platinum Extended Warranty Coverage program is here:
http://www.lexus.com/models/warranty...m.html#pricing
Better that you visit to get the details (there are a LOT of details) than I try to summarize them. Generally, you have 48 months or 50,000 miles (whichever comes first) from the date you put your Lexus into service to purchase the warranty. Detailed lists of the items covered and not covered are on the referenced web page.
There are three pricing options as you can see here in this partial page capture. The left column is the price with $0 decuctible; the right with $50 deductible.

I ended up getting the extended warranty (6yr/100,00mi with 0 deductible). It ended up costing me, $2200 I believe. I ended up getting it because I used the heck out of a 1997 BMW 528i extended warranty (paid $2500 for the policy and ended up using over $7000 in repairs). I do realize we're talking Lexus VS. BMW here, the former being far more reliable by brand history, however this is Lexus' first shot at making a convertible so you never know. Plus the car is extremely complex, parts are pricy, labor is expensive (e.g. $300 cupholders, $1000 AC panel displays). The piece of mind in knowing that everything except for the short list of excluded items is covered was worth the $2200 to me...I can rest easier at night now that I just broke the 50,000 mile mark on my SC. The loaner cars and roadside assistance are an added perks too!
I'm hoping to get my money's worth--if not I suppose the decreased anxiety over something that might go wrong with the car makes the warranty a good investment in my blood pressure.
