It happened (and no, I didn't crash).
A preface first: On my '03 vette, when the temp needle reached 'normal', oil temperature was around 100º; normal oil temperature is 220º.
After letting the car warm up to the bottom line on a cold day, took off slowly on my quiet neighborhood. At the first light, with the needle just reaching normal temperature (remember, oil is still relatively cold), was greeted to a green light. After doing a head check (as a biker, I always do, even in green), noticed a car nose-diving, but judged he'd safely stop, so I proceeded. Well, I guess he was running late and changed his mind, and decided to run the red light. I was already in the lane, and didn't have a choice but to floor it. Let me tell you the f*&#+@ traction control almost caused a rear end. As I had to accelerate while still turning, T/C kicked in, but I never imagined it was so intrusive (be warned); took forever to get the power back, only to lose it AGAIN (yes gentlemen, our $60K+ car is a ONE-WHEEL DRIVE, because Lexus didn't want to spend on a limited-slip differential). Anyway, I could let the gas go halfway from second to third, but only after going close to redline in first.
My question to the experts here is if the oil flows at redline at those cool temperatures, or if any other parts wear excessively before the oil reaches its normal temperature of 200+º. Experts suggests to never run your engine at WOT (wide open throttle) with oil temp below 150º, and hence my question. By the way, car still has factory filled oil, with 700 miles on the clock.
All comments welcome.
Happy new year to everybody here.
