Also is the flat side of the bushing set towards the car or the road?

The washer replaces the top vulcanized metal/rubber washer and the flat piece goes under the washer on top of the diff ear.

As promised, here is my personal review of the diff bushings:
It was a little bit of a pain to get mine installed, my great friend Dfab gave a huge hand on installing them, but instead of melting that rubber off he pressed it out so it wouldn't stink up his shop.
1. After installing the mounts the first thing I noticed was "no clunk" going into reverse, that was awesome!
2. Drove it around for a bit, it feels like I installed new suspension, much smoother, the car feels more "together"
3. I got on it hard in 2-3 gear, feels much more planted, definitely one of my favorite mods yet.
