memokc, you the Cat converters are warranted for 10/100k miles from factory, right!?

Ok fine, don't listen to me, spend $4000 based on an outright lie when you could be spending $24. Worst case scenario $2000 if primary cats are actually bad. Why not try other options first?

Lex, apparently I am not understanding you, I AM listening to you, that's the whole purpose of me replying to a thread about O2 spacers? There is no way in hell I was even remotely going to pay $4K for ALL new CAT's. I wanted to get feed back from people like yourself that have used the O2 spacers, that is the route I am going to go, just needed to know how many I need, I need to purchase? I totally appreciate your suggestions and I am going to use the spacers so I don't ever see those dang lights again for BS for those CAT codes. Thank you Sir

That's just it Bacardi, it runs AWESOME?? I think I am going to go with the O2 spacers, I live in OKC and we don't have emmisons testing any ways. Do I only need two spacers?

Usually, when a cat goes bad, the smell is pretty horrific (rotten eggs / sulfur) but you may need to be outside the car when it is running to notice.

I agree and have smelt a bad convertor as well and I have had one go bad on a car years ago and it ran like sh-t, mine runs great? So this mechanic I had look at my truck is a liar, I did have my lights come months ago and had the code pulled at Auto Zone and they pulled the code and I only had one, a PO430, what else can cause this code then?

Post cat O2 sensors cannot effect drivability since they only monitor catalytic converter efficiency. I think Bacardi is referring to the pre-cat O2 sensors that determine air fuel ratio. Since you have a p0430 and p0420 code it is your post cat sensors. You just need two spacers, feel free to message if you need help. The hardest part is unscrewing the old sensors.

Okay guys, for what it is worth, i had the P0430 code and I changed both O2 sensors. The code came back once at the three mile point. I reset the code with my code checker and drove another 15 miles, no code.
Thoughts?

I wish you the best but it takes a while for the system to cycle back through and after 3 failed tests, lights and CEL will be back on. I hope that the new O2 fixes it for you though! Keep us posted!

Is it safe assume you have been doing some homework? Did you find that information on a website?

The new Denso O2 sensors show a different pattern compared to the OEM AC Delco O2 sensors, when the code reader is placed in graph mode.

BTW, do read up on the life expectancy of an O2 sensor. You said you have 98k miles, the efficiency of your sensors may be in question.

The rough idle I was experiencing has disappeared.

Very long, 30min but very in depth.
My stock 68k mile 2000 T/A had a P0430 code and no O2 sensor codes. I checked the O2 sensors and they too looked fair. The downstream sensor had some degree of voltage movement which is a bad thing.
I decided to swap the bank2 up and down stream sensors before I swap a cat. The new downstream sensor has a nice straight line which would be steady voltage.
I purchased the sensors from Rockauto.com for $28 ea.
The new sensors corrected the P0430 code for now.

Here is an 8min version that is really good for P0420 or P0430 codes
