Default Window Rattle

Does anyone else notice when you close the door and the window is down, the window glass sounding like it is rattling when the door shuts? I am wondering if that is normal for 430's or if there is something missing or broken in my doors. (They both do it)

I don't really notice it while driving but it makes my skin crawl every time I shut the doors. No sound as long as the windows are up.

I haven't noticed it but I usually try to shut the doors with the windows up. I'll have to give it a try. There may be a restraint loose or slightly out of place that needs to be tweaked.

Your window regulator is loose. It's normal for cars that are 10+ years old of age.

is there a way to tighten the regulator? I notice that my door also makes noise when I close it with the window down.

Yes, but it requires you to tear down the panel to get to the regulator. If it was secured by screws then of course tighten them, if it was secured by rivits then find the loose one, drill it out and re rivit it. You can get the rivit kit from harbor freight tools and make sure you have the right size of rivit to do the job.
It sounds complicated but actually it's pretty simple task, just the tear down of door panel takes time. I had done it on my wife's Mercedes and my mom's old ES300 before but I don't remember which one was screws or rivits.

I had this exact thing. You close the door and it sounds like the window is rattling back and forth or is loose. I did not notice it when driving, windows up or down.

In my case, the glass was not in the window run channel. The tear down/reassemble was $200. A new window run channel (just to be sure) was $21.00.

Aha! Was the 200 per door or for both? Dealership? Wonder if this would be too much to tackle myself?

No reason why you couldn't take it on yourself. We have pretty good instructions on the forum for taking the panel off. The rest ought to be pretty easy to figure out. If you do it, take pictures as you go!

$200 for one side.

We took the interior door panel off to get a better look, but the metal structure of the door made it pretty impossible to see anything or get in there. It was our assessment that to go any farther was a dealer problem.

If it is the regulator box that is loose, then taking off the panel and removing the plastic sheet makes it very accessible.

Thanks for the replies! Sounds like something I'd be better letting the dealership tackle.
