Driving home on I-4 yesterday after getting a new set of tires on my 2008 SC430, something hit my windshield and I now have a lovely two-foot crack across the passenger side :
At least the windshield will be replaced for free (Florida state law). They are coming out on Monday afternoon to replace the glass (surprised that they had one in stock), and my only concern is if the replacement glass will have the radio antenna built in like the factory windshield does (forgot to ask the insurance company when they set up the appointment).
Anyone have to go through this? Did the replacement have the embedded antenna (two fine wires running up the center of the glass). Any issues after the replacement?
Yes, I just had mine done... small chip ended up looking like yours in a few days! Mine has the antenna, reception is just as good as before.
I was concerned when they installed it because the guys who came didn't know the car, but they did a good job, no creaking or anything else.

That's right. You have to ask for it and they can get it, but the insurance company may not want to pay for it. Me? I'd go to a dealer but that's just me.
About 2 years ago I had mine replaced and they used Pittsburgh Glass works. This is the old Pittsburgh Plate Glass company. It has the antenna and all is well. The only difference is it does not have the rain repellant feature of a Lexus unit. I never thought that much of that feature so I am satisfied with the replacement.
So there is a coating for water repelling on the windshield (I know it is there for the side glass)? I remember some old threads where this was debated, and I had come away thinking that only the side glass had those treatments (or does it vary by year?)
How much is the glass? Mine has tiny chips and looking at replacing it...depends on price.
I paid around $350, installed. It's not OEM, but it totally does the job: it shields me from the wind and is perfectly transparent. What more can a boy hope for, uh? :-)

I can't imagine he hasn't noticed if he does not have the antenna. Also, I can't imagine a glass maker having a product for a specific vehicle and not including the antenna.
Where do you get this stuff?
