The really long article I posted explains why you do not have this issue...it is an older car problem.

DiggerJim says it doesn't happen in an 2008 SC -- has anyone determined what year the good/bad cutoff is?

I believe the problem went away on the 05 or 06 model...not much if anything changed between 02-04.

Got my Custom Options done a few days ago. Total came to $65 (55+tax). I made some great friends with the service adviser and tech, who helped me remove a stripped bolt for free. He tried to help me locate an annoying tapping in the door panel but in the end we couldn't locate it b/c it started raining and there was too much cabin noise. Will have to investigate further. We took a ride and he was very interested in my mods from the media play and reverse cam to the SprintBooster and Trans Mod. Awesome guy! In the end he gave me an entire door panel felt kit ($300+ MSRP), for free. Sweet deal I will say.

Wow and all you spent was $65! If you had gotten a brake job he'd have given you a new LS! That's great you found a terrific dealer and I hope their good service continues! Dealers get very little good press on this forum and I have always liked mine. Congrats!

Correct, the P0420 means your O2 sensors are bad or the VERY expensive catalytic converter has gone bad.
that setting in the car computer adjusts when the HVAC will change to recirculation vs fresh.

You do realize 1) the software/hardware is proprietary, and they aren't selling take home plug ins for it, and 2)in my area of NE, those mods are $150 each. Even worse, some cars don't hold the resetted paramters for long-I paid for defeat auto locking, and it still locks the car withn 25 seconds if you don't unlnock/exit!
Finally, you know that adjusting EGR and other warning codes is a very grey area of Federal law-no Lexus dealer is going to recommend less than replacing 1 of 3 catalysts, etc. It may be you could dial in removal of egr, but I would doubt your dealer would work on it if your car goes flaky later.
Independent shops might be able to put a physical 'lambda' defeat plate which fools the computer...for now-that's what I did, but unless you are well heeeled and like paying for pulling the whole system, eventually, all I can say is...can you lend me some premium fuel!?!!?
