One of the bad parts of living in Washington, DC is that we get a lot of tourists. I was completely stopped in rush hour traffic when some guy with a Chinese passport (no drivers license) rear ended me.

The crash itself didn't feel bad at all (thanks to SC safety engineering) but knocked the frame. I drove it until winter, then left it at my preferred body shop. Six weeks later I picked it up and Habeous immediately noticed that the gaps weren't quite right. Took it to the dealer's body shop and it turns out the first repair was awful. The original shop even glued the bumper to make it look like it fit.

So now another six weeks are going by, but the repair is being done right. Hertz is paying for the first repair; the original body shop manager went out to look at the car and has agreed to pay 100% of the second repair. Each repair was about $5,000.

Next I'll be going after Hertz for diminution of value.

Oh wow. Sorry to hear that JohnnyCake. I was going to comment that it looked like the back end of your car sneezed and blew Lexus parts all over the garage, but I guess that I won't now.

Ouch.... if you paid by credit card, file a dispute .... If all else fails, small claims court.

It's not often that I actually laugh out loud at a post but that was pretty funny.

It's basically all good. I didn't even bother getting my insurance company involved. Hertz, who rented the car to the Chinese guy who hit me, is paying very penny for the first repair. The first repair shop is paying every penny for the second repair.

And since Habeous is now turning heads in his Tesla Roadster, he's letting me drive his SC. Pays to have friends!
