Cabin temperature control failed...
This stumped my local Lexus expert. Does anyone here have any ideas about possible causes and solutions, please?
The temperature control rocker switch suddenly stopped emitting heat in 0.5-degree steps and now emits cold air at 16 degrees, as it should, but 30-degree air at all other settings, 16.5 to 30 degrees.
Passengers now either freeze or boil.

Could be a fault in the interfacing electronics that read the switch. If it has lost a ground or some other part of the circuitry that reads the switch, it could be reading noise on a switch press and maxing out. But that is just a wild guess.

There's another possibility also. Yesterday he pulled a bucketful of dog biscuit pellets out of the AC pollen filter behind the glove compartment when I had it replaced. Apparently there were rodents living under the hood when the car belonged to the previous owner. My guess is that they stashed their hoard in the AC filter box. Some of the biscuits might have dropped into the heater box and are preventing the flaps from moving properly. I thought I could smell them slightly when I turned the control to 16 degrees. What do you think of that story, then? Unusual, eh?

Well, you wouldn't be the first to have stowaways in the ventilation system. Hopefully that will be it since that will likely be easier/cheaper to fix.

I've found an entire family of (deceased) mice in my air box! Was out of the country for about 4 years and had the car stored.... bad news... Awful smell and even more awful to have to pull the mice out. Worst. Day. Ever. Ran an Ozone machine for 5 days straight and changed the filter. Cleared everything out perfectly. Now my car smells only like Black Cherries, thanks to California Scents.
