People in the south don't go out when snowed. Everything shuts down anyway. Been living in DFW area for 30 years and never used all season tires.

Just a personal view regarding the OP question on tire noise. Bought my SC about 3 months ago and it came with newer Lexus alloys and nearly new non run_flat budget tires (Triangle). I had read several posts on this site dealing with tire noise, most of which regarded fun-flats but even if I was unconcious I could still notice the noise and lack of grip . Well after driving less than 500 miles on various roads they were dumped. If these tires were used on a hearse there would be complaints of road noise from the passenger in the back. I put on a set of vredestein ultra vorti tires which I had used before on a FWD honda 240hp. I personally rate these as good as bridgestone adrenalin, hankooks, and good years which are all more expensive. Great dry grip, good wet grip and as quiet if not quieter than any of the others. I had a set of pilots which were equally as good but at least 50% dearer. Not sure how easy these are to source in the US, I had to get mine in from the UK but still felt worth the effort. Check some of the european tire reviews for more info. Just my 2c and drive safely with whatever choice you make.

Yikes -- I had no idea it was so treacherous on summer tires! Thanks, everyone. I don't think I'm going to be switching between summer / winter tires. So looks like I'm stuck with all seasons.

I've lived in the DFW area for 35 years or so now and have owned the SC430 for 8 years now. Driving in snow is less than desirable but doable. People here generally drive slower in snow (except for the crazy ones that you wind up finding in the ditch or smashed up farther up the road later), so that works in our favor here. I made it just fine but had quite a few nervous moments. If I know that there's going to be snow, I typically try to avoid driving or drive our front wheel drive Camry.

If you do have to drive the SC430 in the snow or ice, just take it slow and very careful. Do nothing quick (like turns, brakes, accelerator pedal changes, etc.). Put in the snow mode (power switch on the console) and that will help a little (I believe that forces the car to start out in 2nd gear).

For the most part, it is cheaper to stay home than to fix your body and / or the car.

Its not just that summer tires are near useless in snow, but the configuration of our cars makes it tough even with all seasons when in snow. V8 sitting up front and drive wheels at the back is a very tough combo when there is snow on the ground. When I abandoned my SC while caught in a southern Snowmageddon last year, I saw many FWD Civics and Corollas scramble by on all season tires. The weight of the engine over their drive wheels makes them better off than us. Even a RWD rear engine configuration does better than us - I saw a Porsche 911 scramble along in snow with big fat rear tires cos his engine was right over the drive wheels. Felt sorry for us front engine RWD cars then but hey, the answer is just stay home when it snows.

Default The Best Yet!

I have tried them all over the years and have finally found an incredible tire for my 2002 sc...it is a yokahama yk 580....no I'm not a rep for them! just am thrilled I have tires that are quiet, smooth and great handling....the car feels like it's just gliding down the road now......they were $170/tire from America's Tire, no I don't work for them either, you won't go wrong with these....Oh and by the way they have a 40k mile warranty!!!!!!!

I have the YK580 tires also. They're cheap and perform quite well, I agree. (I had the YK520 tires before them and they did well also.) The YK580 also has a good warranty.

I have the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3's which are very quiet tires that are comfortable and grip well in the rain.

Default Great, smooth ride

I just installed a new set of Yokohama Advan A/S tires along with wheels (dumped the pizza pan wheels) and the car tracks as straight as a laser and drives like silk. COMPLETELY different car it feels like.

2002 new Yokohama Advan A/S tires and wheels.

Nice classic look. What wheels are they and how much do they weigh? What is their offset?

I traded like new super sports for the Michelin MXM4 and could not believe how much quieter the car was. Went up one size without any issue.

I finally replaced the OEM run flats on the wife’s 2007 SC430 with

MICHELIN

PILOT SPORT ALL SEASON 4

I originally selected the Pilot Sport A/S 3, but they were replaced with the 4.

discount matched the 3 price and off we went.
The 4s are similar to the 3s and time will tell...so far, we like them...quiet and smooth...
Y speed rating (186+) so we can take it to the speed limiter if we have a death wish, LoL, NOT ;-)
$70 rebate...Out the door, $820
Discount Tire.
