Anyone upgrading the power on their SC430?
Hey guys
im having a VERY hard time figuring out what car I want to replace my lexus 430 with.
Ive bounced around so much , from c5 vette, to AMG benz, to an LS460, and they all have more flaws and issues then im comfortable with.
I do like the sc430's, Ive owned several sc400's , but they are a little tame in my opinion, and if I did buy one id really like to know what options there are in terms of upgrading the power and looks.
I really like the vertex body kit, and some deep dish wheels would really fix the looks department, but what about power.
Anyone running headers or turbo or anything interesting on these cars?
Any available bolt on kits yet ?
Thanks guys , looking forward to the responses

Only supercharging or turbocharging will get you the
added power you can really feel ( nitrous isn't
very driveable). Your looking at a custom setup:
ecu remap, fuel injector upgrade, and some
special parts. Can be done...but could run
$5-$8K with labor.

Remember too that anything you get will not be as comfortable or reliable (costwise). I did the SLK55 AMG but can't go a year without a multi-thousand $ maintenance or repair bill. It is a kick in the pants and push you into the seat acceleration but it isn't nearly as comfy as the SC430. Suspension is tighter but the ride on real roads can be harsh. That's why I just moved to the SC430 - I just don't drive like a hooligan anymore.

Sure the AMG is a monster sedan , but who wants to fork out thousands a year in repairs?
My ls430 cost me $0.00 in my first 12 months.
Even the ls460 has more issues then im ready for.

If raw power is what you are looking for you need to get a new Z06 Corvette. Hands down it has to be the best power value for your $. I had an opportunity to drive one that a friend bought. Honestly it scared the sxxx out of me. No matter what you do to the SC430 it well never perform close to this car. Personally I for one prefer my beautiful SC430 that is so civilized it is a joy to drive. I guess I am just getting old.

Im not a race car driver or a guy looking for raw power, im a guy that wants a reliable fun car, I love lexus , but the sc430 seems a little tame that's all, id like to wake it up abit if possible.

Upgrades for our car:
1. Sprint Booster Throttle controller ($300)**
2. Swift Racing Technologies Cold Air Intake with Chip ($600)
3. Magnaflow Cat Back Exhaust (approx. $1000 w/install)
4. Non-Run Flat Tires ($500-$1000)
5. Transmission Valve Mod ($0)
**Highest bang for the buck IMO

Can you explain item 5... Transmission Valve Mod?
What does it do?
What's the gain?
How is it done?

scyul,
Glad you found the transmod thread. I did it a few weeks ago. It makes the transmission shift a bit quicker. If you feel comfortable dropping your transmission pan, there is a dial to adjust. Here is a pic, you turn it to the right.
Feel free to ask any questions. Also, how do you like your Megan EZ street coilovers? Did you put them in yourself? How is ride quality compared to stock??
