Maybe it's a valve cover leak? I have the same smell sometimes but my cats are in optimal shape. I think oil is leaking from the gasket and it's producing a burning smell. I

The OP hasn't describe what type of smell it is. We may have jumped in to too many conclusions for him.

Need to know if the odor is truly exhaust, or, more likely, oil on a hot engine or manifold.

Default Catalitic smell

Well thank you all for your input on Catalitic smell for my SC 430 2005.
I used two treatments of Cat Cleaner and the smell is gone. My dash indicater lights have turned off as well, YAY!
The treatment was $22 each $44 total. Worth every penny!
Been 500 miles and still no lights.

Hi PKM, I am a proud owner of the SC 430, 2002 and I joined Club Lexus going on a year now, (feet still wet). How be it, I have a gained a wealth of knowledge on this forum from reading various post on this wonderful car and other models as well. And I am curious if you still remember what product you used to get rid of the catalytic smell you posted here. I know its been a while since you posted this, do you or anyone else mind sharing what additive or treatment you applied to get rid of the catalytic smell. I use only 93 octane for my gas and everything is fine, up until I recently noticed the odd smell being mentioned in this post. Especially in the first few minutes of driving. My mechanic is talking about changing my catalytic converter and the estimate is running on thousands, that I am not willing to part with right now.
I could use some help here from you or anyone out there. Thank you.

It is not as bad as you think. You can get a custom made Catalytic Convertor from Canada for about $100-$150
