Talking Total colour changed my SC430.

Hi, I'm doing a charity drive in Ireland in September 2014 and decided to repaint what was a very tired and threadbare looking paint job that had protected my Lexus SC 430 car for 12 long years and 110,000 hard miles. The paintcode is a secret code but is now known as Kevin Bubba Boland Blue, or KBBB. Paintwork was performed by Stadt Technick in the UK. Link: http://www.facebook.com/STADTtechnik

I also commissioned a hand built custom exhaust on her using the only back box that is similar to the Lexus SC one, the aftermarket Range Rover Sport rear box made by Longlife exhausts in the UK. Made by http://www.longlife.co.uk/depots/stainless-steel-exhausts-birmingham/

The car is still VERY VERY quiet with one decat, and both resonators removed. It's very velvety now, a beautiful exhaust note, but still a touch too quiet for the true hooligan in me.

Wheels are ROTA GTR's and backs are GTR-D for the required stagger. 225-40-18 fronts, 275/45-18 rears. The car will be lowered in the next two weeks on fresh lowering coils, and soon I'll be doing the Bacardi roll bar conversion.

The charity event is a 3 day Gumball / Cannonball style event. For the inquisitive, a pic of the car in her original livery can be spotted there if you want to scroll through all the entry list of accepted car.s Link here: www.cannonball.ie

Thank you ClubLexus and her users for all the advice I've read and received here in the last years. Regards, Graham.

Sweet!

In the states, that would probably be called "Petty Blue."

When asked directly about the "Petty Blue" color, Richard related, years later, that indeed, it had been a fluke. Late in the 1959 season, after having to rebuild one of the '59 Plymouth Fury's, Maurice told Richard that they didn't have enough white paint for the painting of the entire car. Being brought up to waste nothing, Richard found some dark blue paint, but not in a sufficient amount to paint the whole car. Richard said they he looked at Maurice, and Maurice looked at him, and they just dumped the two paints into one tub, then proceeded to paint the Plymouth in the color that came out. When they got done, they were impressed themselves with the hue. Lee came back from an out of town race, and marveled at how that color set the car off. Almost electric is what he said. Of course, Richard and Maurice had to scramble to remember the right mix. Once they did, the formula became their secret, even to the point of being patented by a paint company as Petty Blue.

It's close to "Petty Blue" alright, but Petty Blue is a touch more turquoise, and it was on the final list of colours, along with Tiffany Blue, which is another patented and trademarked colour.

Great color choice. It's nice to see this car in a bright color. I am completely sick of Black, white, silver, and gray, which comprises 90% of the cars in the U.S. BORING!!!

Sure looks " Mexico Blue " or perfect. Now you just need to score the red interior bits from whatever year the PB was. Great job .

I don't have an e-mail for it. I was looking for the details. I went to the Irish Rota dealer and went with the widest recommendation for the car and she worked fine with those rims. Steering has a touch more feedback due to offset and I had to fully rebuild all the front end after the change as the new wheels showed up even the tiniest bit of wear on the front end, but the steering is generally cack on SC430's anyways. The final sorting was with using the Landcruiser tension spring modification kit in the steering damper so she behaves better than a new SC430 I reckon.

If your Rota dealer cannot help you, I'll ring the dealer here and ask him for the details of my purchase. Great wheels. They strangely are much admired (for me it's function over form) and they are pro-drift proven as we have a massive drift scene here and the drifters trust their lives to these wheels.

EDIT: got the details for you Toffee !!
Backs: Rota GTR-D. 18" diameter. 9.5" wide. 5x114mm. ET25. Bronze.
Fronts: Rota GTR. 18" diameter. 8.5". 5x114mm. ET30. Bronze.

Thanks Graham!! Any particular reason why pick a 225 tire for front? I think stock is 245. I really like the way it looks though. Since you picked a 45 profile tire for your rear, and stayed with 40 front, with more rubber, has the ride improved?

Ride is better alright, less tramlining and ability to handle potholes without a blowout are all standard fare now.
I was in a new BMW 1 Series sport recently and it felt so hard in compared to my SC.
The Beemer felt like it would rather skip around when it hit a bump rather than absorb it and keep going.
