Default Best Motor Oil for an SC

What's the best motor oil for an SC, brand and weight?. Bought mine with about 65,000 miles and about to change oil for first time. I live in south Mississippi where the climate is fairly warm and humid. Thoughts and recommendations appreciated. Thanks

Find out if they were running regular oil, a blend or straight synthetic. I recommend you follow their lead since the vehicle has 65,000 miles on it. Mine was always run on regular oil, so I continued that practice and adhere religiously to an every 3000 mile oil and filter change. I like either Castrol or Valvoline and run a 10w 30 or 40 here in sunny SoCal.

Not sure if brand makes any difference. Weight (grade) makes a difference and also depends on the climate/season (temp) !

Everybody has a favorite. My SC430 used conventional oil prior to purchase so I continued with it. Living in New York, I use Pennzoil 5W30 High Mileage oil ( now at 109,000 miles ) and do the oil changes every 3,000 miles ( or less depending on the length of summer ). 5W30 is the Lexus recommended weight with normal temps below 100 degrees F.

I live in upstate NY and store the 2007 SC 430 for the winter along with my 1987 Allante. I use conventional oil, 5w30, whatever is on special at my auto store, in both cars. Neither car sees more than 3000 miles during the summer but I always change the oll before storage.

Default Manufacturer Recommendation vs. Personal Opinion

You probably won't go wrong with the manufacturer recommendation.

Manufacturer Recommendation

You also probably won't go wrong with the personal opinions you seek.

Personal Opinion

I use Mobil 1 0w-30 synthetic with OEM Toyota filters and change it once a year, which equates to about every 6-7k miles.

For non-turbo, port injection engines, such as in our SC430s I prefer multi-weight mineral based oil rather than synthetic. My SC430 spends lots of days in the garage. Mineral based oils tend to remain on internal engine parts longer after shut down than synthetic oils, so when starting up, the internals are lubed already not waiting for oil pressure to come up.

My dealer uses and recommends uses Castrol 5w30 in my SC430.

For my direct injection and turbo engines I like to use use synthetic. Direct injection engines tend to get intake valve coking since the valves don't get fuel exposure to keep them clean. Synthetic is rumored to coke less. Synthetic also handles the high heat in the turbos better.

Been using 5W30 synthetic since I got her at 23k miles from the dealer in 2008. No particular brand - whatever is on special so I have used Mobil 1, Quaker State, Valvoline etc. But full synthetic each time. Now at 74k miles and it all feels perfect.

I use Amsoil 0w-30 signature series and Amsoil filter.

I only use the SC430 as a weekender so most of the time it sits in the garage.

I use to use 5w-30 Royal purple but if the car has not been driven for 2 weeks or more the motor would make a ticking / tappet sound for the first 20 seconds. It does not make any ticking noise with Amsoil even if I don't start the car up for over 3 months.

Amsoil has excellent antiwear and antirust properties and does not break down as quickly as the ones I've used in the past. I do change the oil and filter once a year regardless of kms.

Same here, but I've used Mobil 1 (and change the oil filter each time) religiously in every vehicle I've owned since it came out in the early '70s. Never had any oil-related problems with any one of them - and I ran a few of them well over 150K miles.
My old F-150 pickup had over 230K miles on it when I sold it ten years ago - it's still on the road - I see it every so often in the area being used as a work truck. She looks a little beat up, but she's always pulling a trailer full of landscaping stuff and running strong.

Can't go wrong with Mobil 1 IMHO...
