Default Replacing 2002 OEM stereo & nav screen

I bought a used 2002 SC430 about 2 years ago. Love the car and it's engine.

I kindly gave away the navigation unit in the trunk to a friend's mom, I used my phone for all my needs. The screen is basically not used by me whatsoever.

Now :

I want to replace the OEM Stereo unit with a Pioneer AppRadio 3
I want to replace the stock navigation screen with an Android Tablet (either fixed in the screen area or removable...I've measured that the Nexus 7 2012 is too long by a hair, likely will have to go with Samsung Galaxy Tab)

Do I benefit ( or even need) the Beat-Sonic MVA-12L wiring harness?

I want to retain the motorized stereo and navigation protectors. Am I missing anything by taking out that nav screen? do mechanics need it for anything?

Parts List

Custom Tablet holder in place of Navigation screen - $$$
Wires to hook up an AUX and power - already have some wires
Pioneer AppRadio 3 - $350
BeatSonic MVA-12L - $450
Labor if I can't Do it myself - $$$$

Thoughts? I may just give up and get a tape adapter.. but seems like such a waste of the system.

EDIT: After researching I'm seeing the VAIS system as an option..

Ignore the stereo and just get a tablet into the Nav Screen.

VAIS AUX : http://www.vaistech.com/site/sl3u.php $149 + Shop installation $$
Tablet Holder : ??? maybe just toss it in the center console
Samsung Tablet : $129

Anyone have experience with these particular parts?

For my G35, I replaced the factory navi screen, have yet to do on the SC though.

I purchased this screen
http://www.ebay.com/itm/7-1024x600-LCD-Screen-Touchscreen-Driver-Board-HDMI-VGA-2AV-for-Raspberry-Pi-/131291929076?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1e919bd9f4
And this mini pc
http://www.ebay.com/itm/2GB-8G-Quad-Core-Android-4-2-Smart-TV-BOX-Stick-MINI-PC-1080P-HDMI-WIFI-CX919-EU-/360860201770?pt=US_Internet_Media_Streamers&hash=item5404f1b32a
So I couldn't get the touch screen portion to work, so I use a little mouse hooked into the android pc.

A couple of APPs later (Torque pro, Tablet talk, MX player, and double twist), and viola.

However, if you could use a tablet you could set it up to use llama/tasker to do a lot of things, that was my setup in my miata.

On my miata though, I did away with the stock head unit all together.

After some debate, I'm going to install this in place of the factory Navigation Screen.. and leave the stereo itself alone.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16834325006

a 2012 Nexus was a hair too tall to fit..

2012 Nexus dimensions = 198.5 × 120 × 10.56 mm (7.81 × 4.72 × 0.42 in)
2014 LG G Pad 7.0 dims = 189.3 x 113.8 x 10.1 mm (7.45 x 4.48 x 0.40 in)

That should give room for the thin charge cable and a 90 degree / thin AUX

So happy not to pay $$$$ for Pioneers idea of what Android should be doing, then hacking that with ARUnchained. Sounded like a pain.

How did it fit? How did you retain the open/close functionality of the nav door?

unfortunately I got too aggressive and the open-close didn't work any longer.. has to be opened by hand. Works for me since I wanted something no ones going to steal but I admit I'm a little disappointed
