Default P 0308

Hi folks! wondering if anyone can help with my OBDII code. The car has an obvious missfire and the scanner says its Cyl # 8. I tried the "italian" tune-up and under heavy throttle the miss goes away. I swapped coils and the miss stays with Cyl # 8. I pulled the injector, and can't see anything wrong. Should I swap the injectors between #6 and # 8 and try again since iv'e eliminated the coils or what? Thanks for the help!

How about your spark plugs? Have you checked them?

I would change the injectors and see if the #6 and #8 you will know if it a bad injector

Looks like I'm going to swap the #6 and #8 injectors. I'm no expert on injection, but I guess an injector could fail at low throttle openings and still work at high demand. I did run "Seafoam" injector cleaner through the system, but no help. Thanks folks!

I swapped injectors and the miss is still on #8. Does anyone know the values I should be seeing on each of the 4 wires to the coil on plug or point me to where I can find them?

Well, after swaping everything around one at a time with # 6, I finally got the miss to move to # 6. It appears to be the actual spark plug that was in # 8. I was surprised because I had pulled it and checked for spark but it was working. When I put it in # 6 that's when the miss moved to # 6. I pulled it out of # 6 and checked, NO SPARK.

Glad you found it. Spark plugs can sometimes be fiendish little devils...they can look perfect from the outside, but break down internally (there's a carbon/copper/other material core running down the center that can crack inside)...you can sometimes get a spark at low voltages, but it won't hold up as it starts firing more rapidly.

I've had similar problems over the years with plugs, but its been a while...they are much more reliable than they used to be. We used to have to change them MUCH more often....in the '60s, 15K miles was pretty good for a set of plugs....100K was unheard of!!

That's why I recommended you check the spark plugs since I had one fail recently.

BTW it might not be a bad idea to replace all other spark plugs. You had a fluke and it's the second car I own where a spark plug failed. May not be necessary to replace the other seven, but it couldn't hurt the picket book that much. Here is the breakdown on parts and labor to have the dealership conduct the work.

- Eight spark plugs = approximately $115
- labor approximately $290

Just confirmation, I replaced the one plug and it was in fact a failing plug. $ 10 vs. $ ???? at the dealer. Thanks for all the suggestions.
