I added a sunroof to the removable hardtop on my 87 Cadillac Allante and love the extra ventilation when I have the top on the car. I was just wondering if it is possible to do the same thing to the retractable hardtop on my 07 SC430.

Why would you want to do that? I guess it's your car, and can do to it as you please. By doing this you will diminish the resale value of your car, not to mention possible problems down the road with the vehicle. I'm also guessing this would be a good example for us all on what not to do!

I would guess you would run into problems with structural integrity of the roof since it folds into the trunk. It might not able to handle the weight and torque of the top as a whole with the center part substituted with glass. Too much flex without center support = cracked glass + ruined top.

ShawnOK, that makes sense to me. A removable top is one thing, retractable quite another. I do not believe that I hurt the value of my Allante, but it has never achieved the collector car status that other cars of that vintage have. Also lowering the top on the 430 is much easier than removing the top on the Allante.
Dodged that bullet.

ShawnOk why not look into a VW EOS, they have both. And it seems to work for them. I don't think I would under take such a project, but that's me. It would be different. And possibly 1of 1.

SteadyEddy, but the VW Eos was designed that way. We're talking about adding it as an aftermarket install which would def lead to more problems than meets the eye. Don't get me wrong, I do wish there were times we had a sun/moonroof. It would be awesome but I'm not ready to experiment with such a critical (and highlighted) feature of the SC430, that could and most likely lead to tragedy.

One thing that I did not think about when I suggested adding a sunroof to the 430 is that the top mechanism was engineered to work reliably handling the top as is, if I was to add the extra weight and bulk of a sunroof how long would the top function without problems. I just slapped myself in the Axx for suggesting such a lousy ides.
