Default Cover in trunk needs to be replaced on 06 sc430

The pull out cover that allows the top to be lowered is starting to rip. are there any aftermarket options for this? Also curious about price for oem and labor.

You can check Sewell Lexus for a new tonneau. With our club discount it runs $444 plus tax and shipping. There are some used ones on eBay for a lot less. I just saw one for $150 plus $17 shipping. That's how I replaced the one I have that has an small bit of paint from a previous owner but works fine. Replacing takes 5 minutes though. Pop out the covers with a small screw driver. Remove 2 10mm retaining nuts. And pull out the cover. Reinstall using the reverse steps. It would take you a lot longer to have someone do it for you.

Does the cover being extended allow the top to be lowered? I was looking at the cover and there is a switch in the left side where the cover is secured when unrolled. Is the cover just to let you know where the "clear space" is for the top to be stored. Could you override the switch, making the cover unnecessary except for defining the clear space for the retracted top?

I cut just the tabs that go into the slot sensor that indicates the cover is closed. The actual fabric cover I completely removed.

Thanks for the replies. I knew it could be overridden but was trying to keep it looking original. I will check e-bay but will likely buy a new one and install it myself.

So, my 2002 SC430 passenger side trunk hinge seems jammed and trunk won't open (from the rear).
The top would work fine and hideaway just perfectly, despite the trunk being unable to open from the rear. But I was vacuuming out some stinky crap that got in the trunk (with the hardtop half open, and I forgot to reposition the tonneau cover into the back slots; I put the roof back up, and now trunk is closed and the tonnneau cover's protection switch that prevents the hardtop from opening prevents any movement of the top, and now I have no way to access the damn trunk hinge to try to fix it.

Can the tonneau cover switch be bypassed without being inside the trunk?

Has anyone else had problems with the passenger hinge prohibiting opening the trunk from the rear?
Thanks

I'm guessing you might be able to do a manual retraction by hand. There are instructions in the forum you would need to search for. OTOH, they may presuppose the top being in a "mid close/open" position.
