I called the local dealer here in Plano, Texas way back at August 2013 regarding the recall, those of you live here will know which one. They said they would call me back once they secured the necessary parts and schedule an appointment with me. Till today, I have yet to hear back from them. I take that as careless and tried to avoid these kind of service. I guess I am not going to have this recall done since there are good and bad experiences from follow members...

I highly suggest that you get it done. The failure mode is that the PASS side airbag can go off without warning. That is something you want to happen.

And if it happens, you will not be able to go after Lexus.

You have heard of bursting airbags, what they can do.

bb430, that is where I had mine done back in the fall and had no problems. It may be that they've been swamped with everyone getting it done that the parts have become unavailable for a while.

Mandyfig,
Did you get the name of the service tech that does the repair without dismantling the dash? Thanks,
Michael

I do not know the Service tech who looked at my car. They have developed a strategy to go into the glove box and scan the bar code of the inflator and determine if it is part of the bad lot. If it is not, then you are good to go. In the past they had to take off the dashboard just to check if yours needs replacement. If it needs replacement, they will have to take it down.

Any of the Service Consultants will take care of you. The ones I used many moons ago are obviously no longer there. I have used J. Jackson and T. McGinley, take your pick. Both have been better than anybody I have used before. Either of them will service your needs excellently. Good luck.

I am sending my car in for the recall this Saturday.

Lexus sent me another recall letter after I ignored the first one. Guess they are pretty persistent.

Got my car back today. Turns out it doesn't need the recall work done. Car was built in April 2002.

My SA told me only 50% cars need the repair.

Did you get a full tank of gas? Mine was not filled up since no work was done. But I got a car wash!

Yes, I got a full tank of gas. Asked them not to wash my car.

They also checked the floor mats for proper installation.

would that be 50% before april 2002? because i figured yours didn't need it built in 4\02 so mine wont either because mine was built 5\02. Is that right?

I think the SA meant for all cars in the recall since he didn't know my car's build date.

So would you think it logical that if my car was built after yours then i'm ok too?

It is all about the bar code they will scan. The failure it appears did not happen at a certain time. Toyota knows which bar codes are suspect.
