Rear End Accident - What Damage to Look for in SC430?
Friends,
I was always afraid of being rear-ended in the SC430, and now it happened. My SC430 was rear ended while stopped in traffic, the other driver hit it from behind. I filed a police report as per protocol.
The SC430's rear bumper has damage on it, so it would certainly be replaced. Most importantly, I am concerned about the convertible roof mechanism sustaining damage. I have tested the convertible mechanism after the accident and it appears to work, although now I am hearing "squeaking " sounds which I don't recall hearing before the accident when I retract the roof.
I am worried about structural damage to the car, and the roof. The guilty party's insurance company will of course be covering the repairs. I am looking for advice on how to make sure everything is checked out properly. If the convertible top fails a few months later as a result of the accident, the top repair cost could easily surpass the current "wholesale" cost of the 2002 SC430.
The guilty party's insurance company will likely only want to pay for "cosmetic" damages to the bumper, but I am worried about bent frame issues and the convertible top.
I would appreciate if anyone could give me advice on how to proceed. Any input would be very appreciated. Thanks pals!

This is always a terrible situation to be in.
How serious was the damage? Was it just a light tap, or was it like the other thread, where surrounding panels were bent as well?

Sorry to hear about the accident Jason. I gather that everyone was okay?
I agree with all the above: pictures help and be sure to take it to a dealer or a shop that is very familiar with the SC430 and let them know that you want them to go over the top mechanism with a fine tooth comb.

funsize update
Sorry to hear about your loss. I visited funsize today - almost 3 weeks after she was rear ended. It appears that the adjuster was VERY conservative, and so the shop manager is in the middle of negotiations with the insurance company for newly discovered, hidden damage, I am sure that next week we will start seeing where top issues will start showing up after the trunk and bumper are fitted.
Good luck with your car. Once again, thanks to those who helped me through my ordeal!
