I have done search and read many posts but I have seem to come up empty handed. Here is my issue:

2002 SC430 with 50k miles. I have a set of aftermarket Dolce rims that are 18" with the stock size tires. I have the eccentric spacers on them as well. They have been mounted and balanced. I also have a set of Dunlop snow tires on my stock rims. Obviously I do a seasonal change over.

With either set of tires I am getting a steering wheel shake at 60-65 mph. By 80mph its gone and the car glides perfectly. There is no pulsation in the brake pedal and there is minimal wear on the pads. Below 60mph there is no issues as well.

Tires are wearing evenly. Some roads will make the movement worse, but it always goes away at around 80 mph.

Now both sets of tires were mounted and balanced by the same shop. I assume that could be it...there machine is faulty. But I would like some other possibilities before I try somewhere else.

All I can say is, history tells me that when it shakes between 60-65 it is normally the balance. That is classic. I have had the same situation a number of times over the years and it has always been balance.

I'm really partial to loaded balancing ala Road Force. I have no connections with the manufacturer - I just have seen good results on my SC when I've had the wheels balanced with this machine.

I used to have shimmy problems with every set of tires I bought from Discount Tire. The most recent set I used Tiremax. Tiremax has turned out to be much much better.

I should add that Tiremax's balancing machines were brand new and in perfect calibration. Discount Tire....not so much.

I also have the same issue, between 55 and 65 mph does not go away!. I blame this issue for my low mileage 14.3 miles/gallon, have aftermarket 20" Enkei wheels.

Lots of SC owners report exactly the same thing as you do. I get a little of the shakes myself at about 65 mph and its gone by 75 mph. But I have found that doing regular tire rotation helps minimize the 65 mph shakes, I run OEM 2005 twisties on Conti DWS 3 seasons and 16 inch Mille Miglia el cheapo rims on Bridgestone Blizzaks in winter. I find less vibration on the Blizzaks due to the taller sidewall i suppose but handling is somewhat compromised.

I would just rotate regularly - perhaps every 3 or 4 thousand miles.

Could be caused by your spacers. Remove and test.

Alex818: No spacers. Hub eccentric rings on the Dolce wheels though.

Its important to note several things:

1. Wheel vibration is about 1" to the left, then to the right, then back etc starting at about 60 and is totally gone by 80.
2. Car handles well. Tire wear is perfect.
3. No brake pulsation through the pedal at all
4. Just past inspection with tests for worn front end parts.
5. Exact same issue whether its my aftermarket rims with summer tire or my stock rims with winter tires.

Since the handling is fine (no wandering, no excess movement) I don't think its worn components.

It is the same shop that balanced all 8 wheels. Maybe they have defective equipment. Since there is no simple consensus I will try to find a road force balance location,
