Can my updated GPS disc also be used for my Camry?
I just purchased my Toyota/Lexus dealer, and installed the most recent GPS disc (DVD Navigation Map: No. America) in my '02 SC430. Does the disc have to stay in the unit while it is in use? May I use this same disc to update the '01 disc in my '02 Camry SE?
Thanks

Well in the 2002 Lexus SC430, the OEM/standard DVD player is a 2nd/3rd Generation Player. Depending on the year of your Toyota Camry (and assuming that it takes a DVD to run the navigation), you should be able to find out the Generation of the Toyota's DVD player. If it is also a Generation 2/3 player, then the disc should work in both vehicles. This is a list of the most up-to-date info for Lexus... http://lexusnavigation.com/what_to_order.php. I would think Toyota would have something similar which would then tell you which Generation DVD player you have. Hope this makes sense.
>>>Update: PLEASE READ COMPLETELY. As stated above by the previous comment- You must have the DVD in the player for the system to work. So your DVD player in the Camry is a Generation 2/3 and the disk would theoretically work in the Camry. BUT If you run the newer version disc on any system (Camry or SC) it will automatically update the firmware of the player and therefore you are not able to revert to the old firmware and thus unable to read the older version disc. Therefore trying go back to using an older disc after running a new disc will no longer work and results in an incompatibility between disc version and firmware version. What version is the new disk? It should say the version on it, or at least the catalog/part number on it.
