LED backup lights

Hi OBP
I agree that the Cree bulbs are directional, but the 45 SMD LED's hardly illuminated the area behind the car at all, whereas the Cree lights up the whole area behind the car. When I back onto my driveway the area is flooded with light.
There is no comparison, in fact all the 45 SMD's did was let other road users know I was reversing.
You can see the difference in my picture (post #15) and that was taken in broad daylight.
Best regards
Steve

Update on the backup lights.
I did not think the 45smd LED bulbs were bright enough so bought the Cree LED's suggested by mrblister and fitted them today.
Shame they are hidden inside the lamp as they are the same colour as my car. lol
Look at the difference between the 45smd's and the Cree and the pictures are in full daylight.
Wow they are amazing, so much brighter, well worth the extra.
Best regards

Steve I love your tails! Can you tell us what they are? I would also like to know the external diameter. I am trying to select new tails for the performance exhaust I'm putting together. I am tempted to put on staggered double tails on each side but I like the look of the large OD as well.
Great job!

Thanks for your comments.
The tails are not a particular make, but were one of several offered by the guy that made my exhaust. They are 100mm/4inch outside diameter and the inside bore is 60mm/21/2 inch. I like the staggered double tails too, but think they would not look right unless you have an aftermarket rear bumper too.

I'm not having any luck finding the Cree Led back up lights. I thought these would work (flee bay) "2 x White Car LED T20/7440/7441/992A 7W Cree Q5 Single Filament Light Bulb Lamp" but the site says they won't work on the 2004 SC400.
Could someone please post a link to the seller of the Cree Led backup lights for the SC 430?
TIA

They sound exactly the ones I have, check my link on post #17 to where I purchased them and see if they are the same.
Several of the sellers say they wont fit.

You will have to check the "lumens" output of the lights to determine which one SHOULD be brighter. (Sometimes specmanship comes into play.) You can depend on the power requirements of the lights to determine the amount of light it puts out, even when both seem to have the same number of LEDs. As components improve, the power will go down and the light output will go up.

I went with the 7 watt. I want it as bright as I can get it.
Now I just have to figure out which back up camera system to buy. I want to upgrade the radio too and I think I should do them at the same time. The Lexus dealership will have nothing to do with these two projects, so I have to find an installer first.
