Mitsuboshi's are buil to last.
The key being: the right tension will extend the belt's life.
Sometimes 2x the rated-recommended replacement time period.

Manual for my 2004 SC calls for replacing timing belt at 90k miles or 108 months. Understand we have an 'interference' engine where belt failure likely results in catastrophic valve - piston collision! Happened to have replaced @ 68k miles just yesterday. With water pump and serpentine belt, local Naples, FL dealer charged $908 w/tax (after applying 15% coupon). Supplied loaner car. Also got quote from independent repair shop specializing in Lexus @ $850 w/o loaner.
Where can I get a 15% off coupon??? TIA

I bought my '02 SC430 eight weeks ago in San Francisco. The car had only 57,000 miles on it, but I knew the Lexus manual recommended changing the belt after six years. So part of my purchase agreement with Lexus of Serramonte was that do the timing belt "package" (belt, water pump, tensioner, gaskets, etc.). I agreed to pay for the parts ($650) and they supplied the labor. I was quoted a price by two different Lexus dealers in Los Angeles to the do the job, and both were over $1900. Welcome to L.A..
Serramonte gave me the used parts. As everyone else who has changed the belt with low miles on their cars has testified, my belt showed no signs whatever of wear. I am still glad I did it. I now know I have ten years plus ahead of me without having to worry or debate with myself whether or not I'm risking catastrophic damage to one of the great automobiles of the world.

Same here, just replaced a belt on a 02 and it was very close to new condition. Although, all the many of the other rubber and plastic parts are krispy as can be. With proper maintenance, these engines should sprint to150K with no major issues.

Thanks, I checked and found nothing on their website so I called them mentioned the forum here and they gave me 15%!
So I took her in today and had my rear brakes and alinement, water pump, belt, coolant and air filter done today. All 15% off.
Thanks for the heads up! I'm ready for summer.

I bought my 2002 sc430 last year with 24K. This past year I put another 3k on it so last month I took it to the Lexus dealer for service with 27K. He checked the service records and it still has the original timing belt. Her recommended changing it every 6 years regardless of miles. He quoted me around $600 to do it which seems cheap since oil change, tire rotation and over all check up cost $135.
