I have been searching for a thread that will help people determine what fcc number they need to get the right remote to operate their keyless system. So please post up the year of your car and the FCC number you find on the back of the remote.

So far I have found that the 2003 is hyq12bbk.

2004 SC430 = HYQ12BBB / HYQ12BBK (thanks FLATTOP04)

Once you get it, the directions to program are here only if you have a 2002-2004 sc. For years after that you have to have a dealer tool to reprogram.

I will repost this from others (thanks JohnMD and Key Programming
1. Close all doors. (lock them)
2. Insert an already programmed master key into the ignition.
3. Turn the key from the OFF to On and back OFF FIVE (5) times.
4. Open and close the drivers door SIX (6) times.
5. Remove the original key from the ignition.
6. Insert the new key you want to program into the ignition.
7. Wait 1 minute. The security light will be blinking for this one minute. When it stops blinking your key is programmed. To end programming step on brake one time.

Timing may be important. I did the key on and off to the count of 1 Mississippi, 2 Mississippi said in regular speach -- or just about on the second. Then switched keys in 3-5 seconds. Then opened the door to the same beat.

The Security light flashed for about a minute and then went out. I then hit the brake once -- proably within 3-5 seconds of the light going out.

Then started the car with the newly programmed valet key. I assume the same thing would program a new master key. Question? Can you have more than one master key? If so I may buy one and try again. Hate to lose or break the master from what I hear.

Also, here were her directions for programming the remote on the master key. Let me know if they work.

Remote Programming
1. Close and lock all doors. Unlock and open drivers door.
2. Put original key into ignition and remove TWO TIMES. (the drivers door stays open)
3. Close and open the drivers door TWO TIMES. (close, open, close, open.. stays open again.)
4. Put original key into the ignition and remove.
5. Close and open the drivers door two times. (close, open, close, open.. stays open again.)

6. Put new key into the ignition. Close the drivers door.
7. Turn ignition ON then OFF ONE TIME- this will put the car in ADD mode for your remote. (Turning the ignition ON then OFF TWO TIMES will ADD the remote but will erase all existing remotes.)
8. Remove the key from the ignition. The door locks will cycle one time (or two if you are erasing) . On the REMOTE press and hold the LOCK and the UNLOCK button for 2 seconds. On the REMOTE press the LOCK button for one second.

AT THIS POINT, the locks should cycle by themselves ONE time. This means the procedure was accepted. IF the locks cycle twice it has failed. IF this happens you must start over. Hold the remotes higher up for better reception

9. Open and close the drivers door. Put new key in ignition and pull out. This will end
programming.

There are lots of threads with this info in the forum. The last statement is definitely not accurate. I've programmed several keys for my 2006, no dealer tool required.

My bad. I meant the programming instructions. The FCC ID is often meaningless for the end user. That ID is just the certificate number indicating that Lexus has demonstrated that its transmission technology does not cause radio interference. If you had a remote and didn't know who made it, you could use that number to identify the manufacturer. But a manufacturer is free to use the same transmission technology over several vehicle models that may or may not share the same key blank.

So, the question stands, how does a sc430 owner find a replacement Keyfob and know that it will work on their car?

Ebay vendors that sell replacement key fobs will know what you need . Just give them year model of car. I bought one that was OEM from ebay vendor . I gave him my vin and he even had the key cut and also gave me the programing instructions .

On eBay, search for "keyless sc430" and you will find many vendors selling key remotes for the SC.

New SC430 owner and first post. Love the car and this site is fantastic!

The previous owner only had the valet key and one damaged 3 button FOB for the 2004 SC430 we purchased. Ordered a HYQ12BBB / HYQ12BBK FOB ( listed as interchangeable ) from an EBay dealer and programmed to car using the same steps you outlined above. Saved a bit of cash, too. So please add 2004 SC430 = HYQ12BBB / HYQ12BBK to your list.

Click here to read all of the information about your key remote, right from the FCC themselves. They provide pictures, the frequency, the date.

With that said, you can use the FCC code on the back of your key to purchase a new key and remote transmitter because that code only applies to one specific remote fob and in our case, the key comes with the fob.

If you think I made an error and can prove it, I thank you! But please point to the specific area of the FCC website supporting your findings.

Very interesting read on the FCC papers. I could not find the part where the tell the dealers that they can charge the public up the WAZOO on how to program the key fob. If you invest in a full set of lexus shop manuals they tell you there the two or three different methods to program your keys your self. The manuals only cost around 350.00 to 500.00 for a set. Then you will have the manuals for life and be able to figure out how to do many other things on your cars WHAT A DEAL
