Default Reset ECU w/o losing any settings?

Can anyone verify if this is indeed a procedure that works? Tired of disconnecting fuses and/or battery and losing all my radio and seat settings.

If you want to reset the ECU without losing your seat and stereo settings, perform the following procedure:

1. Get in your car and insert key. (It doesn't matter if you close the door or not.)

2. Turn the key to the on (not start) position.

3. Press the gas pedal to the floor.

4. Hold the pedal to the floor for five seconds, then turn the key back to the "off" position (don't remove the key), then release the gas pedal.

5. Wait 2 minutes.

6. Remove key.

7. Done

Supposedly works on all years, 2002-2009 (?)

Does it work with older models as well?

Hoping Bob or one of the other gurus can clarify if it works at all!

As I mentioned earlier in a different thread, yes it works. It looks like you copied it off of my post, so I'm assuming that nothing changed. I own a 2002 SC430. I've seen several other owners over the years say that it worked in their cars. So yes, it works. My only question is whether it works on the 2010, which I would assume that it does.

Hey Harold...yep, I'll give you full credit for the original post. However, no offense, but I have NEVER seen this posted anywhere else so I am looking for verification from someone other than the guy who originally posted it! LOL

I'm not looking for credit, I just don't understand your reluctance. I guess that you only take advice from a few posters without multiple confirmations. It is true that I've only owned the car for over 6 years now and have been an active forum member for about the same time, so I guess that may not be long enough for you to consider me to know what I'm talking about. Fair enough.

Actually, with a thorough search, you'd find that I was not the first to post the instructions and that you'd also find that several others after running the instructions have had success with using it.

Absolutely no offense intended Harold. Sorry if I stepped on your toes at all.

I have searched (here and generally on Google) and could not find another reference to the procedure.

I appreciate the information. Just didn't really want to go through the procedure w/o knowing it was legit. A lot of people say a lot of things in forums and plenty have proven to be erroneous. Wonder why there is no reference to this in the owners manuals?

I understand. Any advice that you receive on this forum is worth what you paid for it, regardless of the source...

In general, Lexus takes the approach that they make luxury vehicles and the luxury market tends to target those who don't want to mess with their cars. The owners just want to drive them and look good in them. However, in this case, this type of "tool" would typically be left to the use of the service technician even in other car companies or at most be printed in the service manual, which most of us do not own.

Gee, worked for me. What is the worst that can happen? if it does not work for you then no harm no foul. Disconnect your battery and lose your settings. You will need to one or the other if you want to rese tthe ECU
