Sem leather procedure.....caution!
Hello all
just wanted to update this procedure. Talked to a tech at sem and color coat is not the product to use on leather..i know now because it is flaking off!
He said that it will eventually start to get small cracks and begin to peel off....exactly what is happening to me......now i have a mess on my hands.....he suggested i try to "lift off" with 2' masking tape and if all fails use lacquer thinner on a rag and proceed with care.....could be a leather killer!
He said the product should have been sure coat and use a 1500 custom mix.
Use sem leather prep prior and the results would have been correct
all i can say to anyone who decides to use color coat is don't! I would like to know the people that used color coat, what their seats look like after a year?
Sorry for the bad news, but if in doubt, call sem tech (800-831-1122) and they will confirm what has happened to me and i'm sure many others

I don't think anyone said that the SEM product was for leather. The posts that I have seen are saying that they are using SEM but caution everyone, 1. that the product is not inteded for leather but they are trying a DIY and 2. they say make sure you follow the procudure of cleaning the leather and applying an activator before you apply the SEM color for better results. Now, I used SEM on my seats about 4 months ago and had no issues with the paint lifting but I am starting to see the small lines or cracks (for a lack of a better word) that I originally had, that forced me to try this DIY before I went out to spend a couple of thousand dollars on new leather. Would I use it again? yes... I would take my time in cleanning the leather and using an activator before the color. And that is all that I have to say about the subject...
