Default How to clear(reset) a SRS light

Hi, does anyone knows how to clear the air bag light? I recently replaced the leather seat cover and I did drove the car for a few days without the passenger seat, not realizing that each seat has a side airbag. Since that day my air bag light is on continuously on the dashboard. I found out some posts stating to alternate AB and TC pins connected with the ground. The problem is I can't find where Ab and Tc pins are located. Maybe someone has a repair manual and point that out for me . Thank you

I'm guessing that you've already tried the easy possibility -- disconnect the battery, let it sit, reconnect?

I THink the AB TC are pins in the OBD port. That is located underneath on the left side of the dash. This is where the obd code reader diagonostic meter plugs into. Dont quote me on this But I think thats what you are looking for . Do a search for OBD port

I had no luck with the Ab to Tc pin trick, but not saying you shouldn't try. However, if all else fails, I can tell you that the dealership has the ability to reset the SRS codes for you with their scan tool. They may want to charge you an hour's labor, though.

Anthony, when you tried the Ab, Tc pins trick where are they located exactly? I would like to give it a try.
Mrblister, I found the ODB port , but I wonder which are the Ab and Tc pins...

I have this pic which was given to me by another member, but I questioned if these were the right pins because after several hours of trying it, no dice. So please do not 100% trust this unless someone here can confirm it. Sorry, like I said, I got beyond frustrated and threw in the towel. Many people have had success with it though, especially on the SC400/300 forum.

Thank you Anthony. I assume this is the odb1 port located on driver side under the dash. However, I do see Tc pin there but the slot for Ab is an empty spot, just plastic. I looked behind the odb port and there is no wire coming into the Ab spot.
I am still not sure if this is the right port ODB1, that I am suppose to use.

Hmm, yeah I tried so many different pins it wasn't funny... hate that I can't help you more... I think you've found the right port, but you need someone who has done this successfully to tell you which pins are the correct ones to use.

I found some info that looks like the above picture I posted is wrong. Check out this page: http://www.justanswer.com/lexus/1vpq...yone-tell.html

It does show where Tc is, but not where Ab is. I have no clue which one Ab is even after doing extensive searching.

Well, finally after a long time I decided to look back and try to fix the air bag light. Initially I thought the SRS light was triggered the fact that I drove the car without the passenger seat . In fact the light should have disappeared once the seat was installed . Mine did not. The real reason why the light was still on the dashboard was that in the process of installing my leather cover seats I damaged the seat belt sensor. After I looked into this matter I did not find any work done on lexus cars but some people did a fix(bypass) on their bmw. . Here is a link on a seat belt sensor on a bmw to get an idea how it looks. Sc430 is identical(blue and white wire) or close enough...

And here is a youtube diy :
Well , as soon as I turn on the engine the airbag light disappeared, drove around for 1 hour and everything is fine as it should be. I bought everything needed from Radio shack for less than $3
It feels great not to see that light again...

I had a long fight with the SRS light last year. Mine turned out to be the SRS computer ($600 with discount - ouch). Anyway, what I found out was that the system does a reset every time you start up, so resetting is unnecessary,

I'm not sure what your response meant, adi. All I was saying is that yes, you can manually reset the SRS light, but the next time you start your car the light will be back. You can also defeat the alarm, as you did. However, now you will not know if your SRS system is malfunctioning if you do. It's easier to just cover the light with black tape. Or you can fix the problem.
