Default Leather in Rear Seats of Lower Quality Than Front Seats?

Sometimes I browse SC430 postings on eBay and I can't help but notice how many of the SC430s have the front seats in perfect shape but the back seats with creases and visible folds. We all know the rear seats can't get too much use, and the front seats get plenty of use, which leads me to think that the rear seats have lower quality leather than the front, which result in them looking more used at an earlier age.

Any thoughts?

Thats interesting. I see the reverse. I notice that the bolsters on the drivers side shows a lot of wear and the rears look good.

If you do some research, Lexus also use lower quality material for reverse gear on all cars. Make sense since they don't get much use.

That's an interesting observation. It makes sense since the back seat is rarely used in most cases.

Should've just used vinyl for the back seats.

...well it might make sense to use a cheaper leather, but I've never noticed anyone's back seat looking more used than their front...just my observation

Not to derail thread...but while i love the feel of our leather, more than any car ive been in btw, when i wear shorts they get soaked after only a few minutes of driving. My back too in summer. Was so bad yesterday (88 here) i had to tie a hoodie around my waist when i went into the store to cover the wetness.

Not proud but hey. Wish the leather breathed better

I think the folds and creases are just the way the leather was stapled to the seat-back. They sort of pleated it a little.

Where does this sort of thing come from? The Internet just seems to breed conspiracy theorists!

I would highly doubt that there is any difference in the leather between the front seats and the rear or that reverse gears are of lower quality material.

I haven't been able to discern any such differences in 5 different Lexus vehicles I have owned (or in any other vehicle for that matter) and have never heard or experienced any such difference in reverse gear cogs.

If anyone has any evidence to the contrary, please post same. By evidence I don';t mean posts on other forums or someone's opinion. I mean either a copy of a Lexus Specification, independent lab test, metallurgical report etc.

Just a thought - If (and its a big if) Lexus are doing this then every manufacturer is doing so as well.

I agree; I don't remember when the last time I even used the backseat for anything. Not even to throw my jacket back there.

if you see it worn out its probably because people use it for their suitcases, laptop cases, and purses. Especially since the SC has basically no trunk room.
